Our OGF Star of the Weekend is Charlie (MichRR714). Charlie is one of our excellent moderators and is a member of the Detroit 3-Railers, our first Member Train Club. This week, something different in terms of photo posts. Charlie has one of the most beautiful roundhouses in our hobby, so we will concentrate on images of your favorite accessories (model or real).

I'm taking this as Favorite Accessory maybe a little loosely, if so, apologies. In my collection of WW1 and 2 items are some rare pieces tied to railroad. There is what is known as the 40&8 medal. Designated that a boxcar could hold 40 men or 8 horses. The medal was given to men that served in France during WW1 and were transported by train to the front with horses. Next is a British Railway Service pin worn by those working for the Railroad during WW1. Last is a medal which was worn by those exempt from military duty because they worked for the railroad. They are my favorite accessories to my collection because they depict Railroad and those that served with railroads during those periods.

Josef, the railroads were so important to the success of our services in WW 1 and 2. Nice collection filled with memories of those who served. Not sure our RR would serve as well today. Different time, different needs.

A Train Museum I like to visit is in Spencer NC at NC Transportation Museum. I visited there this past summer. My Avatar photo is taken inside the roundhouse there. This N&W 611 pulled into Spencer in the last few days. They pulled her into the roundhouse. This photo was taken close to the same spot as my Avatar. There re have been several special events over the years at the roundhouse at Spencer. The NS Heritage units were put on display there several years ago. They had Streamliners event held there too. The had many Streamlined Diseals brought in from all over the country into Spencer for this event including N&W 611 which then was restored in their roundhouse.
