They might be doing special runs to keep busy but I don't see how limited runs would keep them in business. Unless it becomes a huge downsize.

It seems to me that this is a BTO program, just like MTH has always done. Only difference is they are now advertising as such. Without the use of the catalog. The offerings are limited for now but it hasn’t been said they won’t get new tooling to add down the road. Plus there’s another announcement to come this summer!

I’m actually glad that Charles RO is more aligned to Lionel. If they had worked with MTH to produce some B&M special releases like other vendors have, then my wallet would become lighter.
So far none of the offerings called my name.

Early in the year, the MTH special-runs were unique... as were some of MTH's regular production "uncatalog'd" offerings like the 25th Anniversary BNSF locos and matching rolling stock. But it seems for the past month or so that MTH is making a DAILY announcement -- mostly of dealer special-runs, but sometimes a regular-production uncatalog'd offering are mixed in there as well. It would be interesting to see the sales numbers (i.e., pre-orders) for the newest offerings as compared to the offerings a couple of months ago.
If I were a betting man, I'd bet the recent announcements are coming up slower in pre-orders, because folks can't keep up with everything. I know I'm pretty much tapped out for "planned" expenditures this year. I pre-ordered a few MTH rolling stock specialties, because I expect they'll be produced well. Frankly, I personally prefer to see a catalog all at once, and THEN decide which goodies I'll keep an eye out for later in the year when they're delivered. The daily announcement approach might in fact be too much of a good thing, and it could be wearing thin on even die-hard MTH enthusiasts. Just keepin' it real.

I have the Imperial Trump 2024 ES44 and the Imperial New York Central SD70 on order so I'm tapped out. I can only buy so much.

To be honest so far I have seen nothing interesting to order. Maybe in the near future something will catch my eye.
