Oh I see. I am making a guess that the UP and BN engines in the movie clip were not running. They were just being pulled by a few powered units.
I have seen “power balancing “ moves on Conrail(now CSX and NS) where extra locomotives are moved all at once between engine terminals. This happened a lot where a certain line had a big grade going in one direction and extra power is needed to get trains up the hill, but not needed for runs in the opposite direction. They were usually running, but not online for power.
I used to see this happen quite a bit around Altoona and the Horseshoe Curve. I think since most class one railroads use just two high powered, modern units to pull trains, you don’t see the special moves much anymore.

I counted 39 engines but I could be off.
I only run 1 engine per train since my layout is fairly small though at some point I will run 2 just for fun.

I have done A-B-A and GP-9, A-B-A and another A-B. In steam, I think I can put 8 or nine together, locked e-units. Pulls couplers apart. Used to do double-head steam, helper 60% back in tonnage, another pusher in front of the cabin car, must have been 60 postwar freight cars, hours and hours at shows. Had to take the top cover off the ZW to let it cool.
My 675/225E engines have usable front couplers, I can couple two 665's, and the switcher.
