These days one of the big factors for folks in renewing a membership is the quality of the organizations publications.
I think the TCA could go a long way to updating the scope of what is published in their publications. So much of what is currently published is not applicable to where the hobby is today.
Oh and yes I did renew in support of the TCA.

100% agree, the Quarterly is stuck in a time warp that only Eddie reads. LOL sorry Eddie couldn't resist. Yes, time to get with the times.

Good news!
I know both the Train Collectors Quarterly and Headquarters News do accept submissions from the field. I am sure they would love you guys to offer up your own stories, or photos.

I had considered dropping mine even before the shut-down. For the past 5 years at York I've mainly been strolling and looking, mostly in the Orange Hall. I would then leave early, and hit all the antique shops in Columbia, Strasburg, and Paradise on the way home. Since I can get into the Orange Hall as a non-member, that is what I'm going to do. Allowing non-members in at all may prove to have been a big mistake. What will I do if the non-member entry is no longer available? I'll just go to the Allentown show twice a year. It's half the distance for me. Joe, I couldn’t say it any better. You nailed my sentiments exactly. And I’m just being honest. No apologies necessary either. It is what it is. I choose to channel some funds to the LCCA, LOTS and METCA with their offerings that are a better fit for me these days.

Train Collectors Association Mission Statement: "To develop an appreciation of and to preserve an important segment of history - Tinplate Toy Trains - through research, education, community outreach, fellowship, establishment of collecting standards, and to promote the growth and enjoyment of collecting and operating toy, model and scale trains."
If you're considering letting your membership lapse, I hope you will reconsider. Yes, the ability to go to York is a big benefit, but it appears nowhere in the mission statement. Before you let your membership lapse, take a look around the TCA website; you now have access to all issues of the Train Collectors Quarterly, the exchange, and many other benefits. If TCA membership is still of no value to you, at least consider making a donation, just as many of you have done to support this forum.

I just went looking for the renewal form and I can't find it. Could be a sign not to renew.

My TCA membership expired in August and I haven't renewed it. Living in Florida it's very hard to attend York. I had joined the Southern TCA group but there were no activities for me to attend. I just don't see the point of paying $50 (+ $10 for the Southern group) a year for nothing.
Florida is open and we have had train shows though everyone is strongly urged to wear a mask. The shows are tiny compared to York but still fun. I'm basically in the same boat as you, except the so called local chapter for me is 130 miles away. And another 280 miles away so I'm no where near a chapter. Closet club is about 60 miles away in Columbia. Just nothing here for me to consider a good reason for something out of my reach.

If you can't afford $50., You can't afford to buy trains, and you are not a true collector.

If you can't afford $50., You can't afford to buy trains, and you are not a true collector. That's part of the problem, Eddie. Most of what the TCA offers is aimed at collectors and I am not a collector, true or otherwise. I can afford the $50 but I see no reason pay the TCA when I can spend my money elsewhere and get something of value in return.
