Got home about 10:10 after a drive of 4:40, a far cry from the seven hours it took Wednesday to get to York. Light traffic and beautiful weather.
The car is empty and a4viator is on his way home to Chesapeake from here. Thanks for the nice welcome that everyone gave him; he really appreciated it.
We drove Paula’s Jeep and had instructions to buy pumpkins and gourds for home decorating. We did that and found that the pumpkins were going to get bruised rolling around so we were forced to pick up a few items at the show.
Harry Hieke had the interior of our N and W station and a set of station platforms ready for pick up.
Steve Nelson had several AIUs and a Lionel C and O 2-10-4, also for pick-up.
We got a Greyhound bus and Ambulance from Jack Pierce. He and his wife just flew in from Europe where he placed seventh in the world in his class of sailboat racing.
Scenery Express makes tunnel portals and other things that add stability to the pumpkins, smoke fluid from Megasteam, ballast from Dennis Brennan, three new videos from Bob and Denny, some signals from Z Stuff, and a Caterpillar loader on a flat car completed the pumpkin support package.
One other thing, if anyone is interested in a set of Tennessean passenger cars, Scott Mann (Golden Gate) indicated that he will be looking at doing some in 2020. Scott flies back to China tomorrow.
Others of you who attended York, what essential items did you find and what excuse did you come up with to get them into the house/train room?

This was a "light York" for me in terms of return-trip cargo. I snagged Stockyard Express's latest special-run MTH Premier Madison car -- a heavyweight military/medical observation car. They just arrived at Stockyard Express on the Monday before York, and pre-orders are being shipped next week. Neither Dianne nor I could remember if I pre-ordered this car , so I grabbed one at York to save on shipping. Dianne mentioned they only have a few more back at the store that aren't spoken for. So if you're thinking about adding an observation-style Madison heavyweight to your military train, I wouldn't wait too long as these limited-quantity gems tend to go fast. I also did some minor damage at Scenic express... but that was a planned purchase: about 11-12 western-style evergreens for a new area of scenery on my layout. Good thing I wasn't carrying any pumpkins back home -- otherwise they'd be rolling around like crazy in the back of my SUV!!!

I know you have been waiting for the rest of the Roanoke Train Station, so it had to be a fub ride home. Now you can finish that scene.

I know you have been waiting for the rest of the Roanoke Train Station, so it had to be a fub ride home. Now you can finish that scene. We were just in the train room admiring Harry’s work and figuring out how to put it all together. Harry, Rich, and I, discussed it Thursday. Paula really liked what Harry has done. It is not “plug and play;” we have to make a few adjustments, etc to get everything to fit properly but, from what we can tell, they are easy to make.

I like the wording "essential". I haven't used it ever, but next time I will when wife asks me what I bought for the layout, I'll just say "essential" things that are needed. Thank you! I'll get back here if it works.

Look at the postive side of this equation, Gary, more to spend on trains over the winter.

Kind of a downer trip for you, Gary? No I did bring something back. A head cold that’s kicking my butt But that aside it was a fun show, meeting new friends, seeing old friends. Plus my 611 adventure which I’ll post the video sooner or later.

Really wanted a 726, and found one! And I spent a ton at scenic Express, bought some trees and what not.

Jeff, the 726 is a Lionel legend. I wanted one as a kid but never got one. Actually it was the 736 that I drooled over. The 726 was before my time. The 736 and the New York Central F3 ABA were, in my mind, the biggest and most powerful engines Lionel made. I had the F3 so I was half way there.

A ton of stuff, but only one essential item.
Many of you know that I am a New Haven guy......many of my passenger engines are pulled by a K-Line Collectors Club EP-5 with TMCC & Cruise. Yes, they are called “jets”. Mine took this too seriously.......it tried to......its shelf collapsed and it tumbled onto the floor shattering a truck side frame..
What to do? I could wait till MTH catalogs one again.......however, I went to York thinking that if I could find one with a good price, I’d buy it and change out the side frame. I mentioned my quest to folks at breakfast, including Craignor.
About 3PM on Thursday, Craig texted me from the Blue Hall with a picture and location of a conventional K-Line duplicate of my engine for $105........needless to say, I bolted from the White Hall and made the sale in 15 minutes.
Thanks again, Craig!
A true “York miracle”
Peter
