There comes a time when you need an item for your layout and it is not commercially available. Wood had to make a custom model of the Banff Hotel. We needed a Launch Star for Santa's sled and there was zero chance of finding it. So if we were the have one, we had to build it. It was a really fun project as well as the base ffor the Clock Tower building.
The bottom line, you can do it if you put your mind to it. Otherwise, there is always Harry Hieke.

I used Vallejo Acrylic Weathering Effect Paint to add mortar to the plain brick wall and to dull the finish of the red brick. You just paint it on and then wipe it off with a damp cloth using horizontal strokes.

I use a mortar color acrylic paint, same technique but takes time to get the paint off the surface.

Spread it over the bricks, lightly dampen a sponge and wipe it off. I am going to try your product and compare the results.
