Those of you who are going to the York Meet, stop by Harry Hieke's booth to see this one in person. It is without a diubt the best fruit dostribution facility done in O-Gauge, ever.
Take a look.

Joe, if I had freight service, it would be on our layout. Stunning to see in person.

The picture, as good as it is, doesn’t do it justice. Harry did this one right.

If anyone is more interested in this, pull up Harry’s Everything O Scale site and look at the two videos on his fruit packing house. One is an instructional video in case you want to assemble the kit.
Don’t be afraid of Harry’s kits or how rough they look when you receive one. We have built a number of his structures and they end up looking fantastic. They are not difficult to build or, if you prefer, Harry will do it for you.
We have not assembled this one although we have looked at it for years. Virginia is not a mecca for fruit packing but a lot of tomatoes are grown on Eastern Shore and we would probable use that. Maybe this week we will order one.

I have this kit but haven't build it yet. My other HH models were fun to build and very well done by Harry.

How about converting it to a Poinsettia Distribution Facility, Emile.?

Wow. I need that here in Fla! I was thinking along the same lines, Forrest. Seeing this model made me think that maybe I should tear down my layout, sell many of my trains, and build a Florida based FEC layout. Since moving to Florida 3+ years ago I've become very fond of the FEC.

Unfortunately, too long for me. Can’t squeeze 30 inches into where I would want it. Not without removing my gentlemen’s club. Too much work went into that.
When I was first planning this layout, I was thinking FEC, SAL, and ACL which all ran in fla and all hit the station in Jax. I actually acquired passenger equipment to fit, but then backed away from the idea completely.

Looked at this again yesterday. It is one of Harry’s best creations. Really well done.
We discussed the size and he can make it shorter. He can easily modify it to handle produce from another region such as tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage, etc. He can also do custom signage and decals. The individual details that are applied add color and can be quite specific if you want that.
I had a customer who grows cabbages and potatoes. Harry can get decals to apply to the sign and individual crates, etc that are what my customer uses today. This gives a really neat identification that people in our area will recognize.
He said that the kit requires some skill to assemble. We have completed a number of his kits and feel very confident that we can do this one.
The cost for the one displayed in York is $1,400 including a number of improvements such as additional lighting, etc. I do not have the cost for the kit.

Brian we have several of these in our area. The poinsettias have to be handled individually. It would require a lot of modification to convert if you wanted to maintain the detail that Harry has included. The basic structure could be changed but it might be easier to just start over and model a hothouse that is growing poinsettias and a small area for wrapping and shipping. It would look good on your North Pole setting. You just need a small addition. Or on Emile’s Christmas Video 7.

That would look good. Harry’s kit could be modified into so many different things. It’s a superior model. Very impressive. Emile
