If there was one steam engine that would be the last standing on your layout, which one would it be?
For me, clear choice. The ATSF 3000.

Tough one there to beat BRIAN. I just got my 3000 over the summer and it is great. But I still like my VL BIG BOY just maybe a smidgeon more. Not much though.

You have to find that one, Joe. It seems that I like things that were made before I started the hobby

Joe, it is out there. The York Meet would be a good start. If you cannot go, ask a member who is going to look for it.

Since I run steam almost exclusively, this is a tough question. But...…….if forced to have only one, this would be it:

This is the last Steamer on my layout. Lionel 773 1949 vintage. Beautiful, heavy and powerful with realistic gear ratio for speeds.

Believe it or not it would be my 2037. I received it from my step brother Paul when I started building my first layout. It was in his family since new. His son Paul Jr ran it for awhile when he was into trains. Paul Jr passed away from cancer a few years ago. This made it even more valuable to me. My friend John Wilusz aka HudsonJohn rebuilt it for me and converted it to liquid smoke.

What a warm and wonderful story. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Not a good picture at moment. Need a new battery for camera. But my Pennsy 2-8-0 which Harry also weathered for me. I'm a 2-8-0 lover.

That's a tough question as posed. As to my scale stuff, I guess I would hold on to the Lionel Legacy M1A. But if I had to save one locomotive from a house fire, it would be my dad's 2026.
