The nice thing is that if the Lionel Docksider is a metal shell, you can “erase” the unwanted markings with lacquer thinner. You apply it lightly with a q-tip and lightly scrub it until the old lettering comes off. That way you have a basic black engine to work with as the thinner doesn’t attack the black paint unless you scrub it too much... It won’t work on plastic though. But rubbing alcohol may... Tom Thanks Tom. My Docksider originally had the #1251 Reading RR Shops markings. I used rubbing alcohol and Q-Tips to erase the lettering on this engine and another project, but it took a fair amount of scrubbing. I'll give the lacquer thinner a shot next time. 👍👍

I picked up this little engine the other day. Like new, conventional control with nice details. I am going to re-letter it for something. Just not sure what yet. It is another side project, along with my Shawmut caboose... Tom

Not to leave out two-railers, here's a link to a 2-rail conversion presentation by Joe Foehrkolb (Baldwin Machine & Forge) Among other jobs Joe has done (beautiful work!), the docksider 0-6-0 description begins at slide #20. www.slideserve.com/adamdaniel/2-rail-conversionsFW

Cool. The addition of the air compressor is a good idea. Definitely adds to the interest...
