It's so easy to get hooked on model cars for our layouts. They add a high degree of realism to any layout. Whether it be a street scene or a parking lot at the train station, the model cars have a way of making the scene come alive.
The variety of model cars in 1:43 scale is overwhelming. You can easily model whatever decade you chose.

I had a large collection of Franklin Mint 1/24 cars and trucks. I started with the Rolls Royce silver ghost back in 1987. I ended up selling them all to another collector. I did keep a few of the Fire Engines though.
Now I have many 1/50 and smaller vehicles as space was limited for a while...

Mostly GM 40's 50's here is an example of a cheap model. The original wheels were horrible. After upgrade them the look change dramatically.

Based on my layout I'd say that my favorite cars are 1950s Cadillacs. I have more of them than any other model. I'm pretty sure most of them are made by ERTL. The cars on my layout are inexpensive models and most are 1950s and 1960s models.
In real life I like modern cars. I'm a big fan of modern conveniences. In terms of looks, I think there were beautiful cars in just about every decade. Some decades had more beautiful cars than others but each decade has it's standouts.
