The wheelbarrows are very well done. They look 3D printed. Did you print them? Thanks all.
The wheelbarrows (both varieties) are from the Narrow Gauge Modeling Company. You can send e-mail to: sales@narrowgaugemodeling.com or look at their website. They've got some pretty good stuff. The squared off one might be 3D printed, but not by me. The other type is a kit (legs, body, wheel).

Updated 6/11/2023: I just realized it has been about a month since I last updated this thread. While it's true that "idle hands are the Devil's workshop", that hasn't been the case around here. There has been a fair amount of progress on a number of fronts: - As you may recall, I am working on a couple of cranes for my open hearth. The 250 ton transfer crane (used to pour molten iron into the furnace) is finished. It's a flat gray with yellow railings, diamond treadplate walkways, and a 2 winch hoist. Unfortunately, I can't post photos as it may be a candidate for a magazine article. I can tell you that I used pulleys and gears from Stevens International to create pulleys and gearing for the hoist. Some oversized electric motors and brass axles were also involved.
- A friend bought 4 AHM bobber cabeese for me on eBay. I surgically modified 3 of them into scrap buggies (also used to add chemicals to open hearth furnaces). Here's one before surgery.
- After drilling out the plastic pins in the underframe and unclipping the ladders from the roof, I popped the cabin off the frame. The end rails and ladders were removed by forcing a small flat screwdriver between them and the platform. The couplers were unscrewed from their posts and removed. Then I used the Proxxon saw to cut off the platform, shortening the car to a scale 16 feet long. The two plastic supports for each coupler were removed and the area sanded flat. Atlas Extend-A-Couplers replaced the plastic AHM ones. The car got a floor, sides, and ends. Weathering will follow. I also made 12 scrap boxes.
-
- I have also been working on the design and construction of the 350 ton teeming crane (used to pour or "teem" steel into ingot molds sitting atop small flat cars). The crane is a unique item. Unfortunately, I only have 1 photograph of the back and an artist's sketch of the front. The crane's cab is 3 stories below the bridge (where it rides on the buildings rails). Based on an intense study of these 2 pictures, I have designed the model and am now starting to build it.
More when I know it.

And Patience? I don't even know the gal.

Updated 7/1/2023: After much wailing and gnashing of teeth, I am pleased (and relieved) to report that the construction of all 4 open hearth furnaces (Nos. 11, 12, 13, and 14) are complete. Some weathering for spots is still needed, but the plan is to do that and have them installed on the mill floor shortly. Next time I decide on a project like this, somebody talk me out of it! And yes, we still have a long way to go. George

George, Congratulations on the work. Talk you out of a project for the next time? No, it is too interesting not to follow your work. I have not encountered a hobbyist who has a focus and attention to detail like you. Alfred

Updated 07/09/2023: - All walkways on the pouring sides of the furnaces are now complete. These were given handrails (painted yellow) and weathered heavily.
- All ladders and their safety cages between the furnaces have been installed. These allow 1:48 steelworkers access between the walkways and the pouring floor.
- All furnace piping for the water jacketed doors (on the charging side of the furnace) is now complete.
- All 4 furnaces have been permanently fastened to the model floor.
- All 5 mid-line columns have been installed.
- All pouring floor ladles (except for No. 14) have been installed.
And no, we're not done yet. More when I know it. George

George, You are making progress. Isn't it usual that the more one does to check off items on a list for a project, the larger the list grows. Alfred

Absolutely, the list keeps growing.
I'm cutting things off the list wherever possible.
I figure I have about 70 hours of work left.
