You did a fabulous job on the conduit George. It looks very realistic. I like the hobo living under the bridge. 👍

Thank you. Yeah, I like hobos as well. I was going to do trolls, but then you've got to find Billy Goats (in 3 sizes)! And the outcome's soooo predictable.

Updated 9/9/2021:
I am really tired at the end of today's work because I've been spreading ballast by hand.
More when I know it.

Updated 9/12/2021: Today I placed cinders next to the ballasted right-of-way, using a plaster scraper to keep a (more or less) straight line. After that, I applied various Woodland Scenics ground covers. After pulling the protective paper away from between the landscape and the fascia, I decided to do some additional painting and planting of undergrowth. I think I'm done with the Eastern Approach, but I will look at it again tomorrow. And I do have to pour water in the "lagoon". Pictures tell the story.

Great job GEORGE!!👍👍. What size ballast are you using and where did you purchase it. Ballasting will be my winter job on the layout.

Great job GEORGE!!👍👍. What size ballast are you using and where did you purchase it. Ballasting will be my winter job on the layout. Thank you. I like Brennan's Better Ballast. This is the natural gray color. You order it through his website www.brennansmodelrr.com.
I spread it on the tracks using the device to the right of the bag.
I use the gray color for my Pennsy mainline - it's O scale (1:48) and prototypical. He also offers a black, which might be appropriate for the Weirton Steel yard. I'm still undecided on how that area will be covered.
And by sheer coincidence, the 10 bags I estimated that will be needed to finish the layout arrived today. That day is still far off, but Dennis Brennan has stopped coming to York so I decided to order it and be done with it.

Absolutely hysterical. I've learned a lot of lessons (the hard way) as a result of Panhandle 1, but I would definitely not call myself a professional at layout building. I still make plenty of mistakes and have to redo things. It's just that I've decided the mistakes should be new ones.
Still, thanks for the compliment, however dubious.

Brennan's Better Ballast is what I purchased for my layout. How much track did you cover with one bag?

Brennan's Better Ballast is what I purchased for my layout. How much track did you cover with one bag? The website says 22' coverage with a bag. I haven't really measured, as the sections I covered are separate and curved. And the Eastern Approach is double-tracked with a wide median that I ballasted. So, the number seems right, but I don't have a way of precisely determining it.
