Two years ago, I sent a Lionel KW transformer to a Lionel repairman for some minor repair, using USPS. The agreement was that I prepay him for the shipping costs, which I did. Once the repairs were completed, he sent it back to me by USPS mail, but failed to insure it. I was provided a tracking number, which I continued to use to track the package. After a week, with no package, I contacted the local postmaster, the shipper, and the post office where the package was sent from. No one could find it, or track it. After 17 days, the package was delivered to my front porch. If only a package could talk, this now would have had a story. The package was wrapped in clear plastic, in an attempt to contain the remnants of my transformer trying to spill out of a hole in the package four inches in diameter. Affixed to the plastic wrapping was an official USPS sticker stating something to the effect “We are sorry if we inconvenienced you.” Its whereabouts could not be tracked, despite the repeated efforts of the local postmaster.
My suggestions to you are to be persistent in tracking your boxcar. If it doesn’t show up, contact your postmaster. They have means to track a package not available to the public. Best of luck!
