No, I am not to my knowledge anyway in imminent expectation of death, but reefer madness vis a vis MTH/Atlas has taken a turn for the worse. It was bad enough that I slid from woodside reefers into woodside milk cars from mostly Lionel however a visit to our local Star Hobby proved to only accelerate the disease/symptoms into another gauge.
Little did I know that USA Trains from Charles Ro had a bevy of G scale reefers of their own. If you think that O scale woodside reefers are great looking you should see them in G scale! Holy guacamole!!
There is some overlap of topics and vintage companies which I will avoid, but for those not fixated on beer, there are a number of departures in subject matter which are fascinating as well as pleasing to the eye.
An asparagus reefer car? Bring it on!
But for those fixated on beer, there are a number of new breweries represented that TMK no one else has done in O/O27 scale. The added size of G scale really allows the nickname 'Billboard' reefer realize its' namesake. We often speak of RMT graphics and rightfully so. USA Trains paint schemes are second to none and vibrant in many of their offerings.
Fruit and vegetable lovers will have plenty to choose from as well with companies and graphics which do not duplicate what the O/O27 folks have done previously.
USA Trains also offers an outside wood bracing Woodside Reefer which I found to be an interesting variation although it does disrupt the billboard image a bit.
I know this is not a G scale forum, however as this is something that I literally just stumbled upon the thought that this might be of interest to the forum was logical IMO. I will get some photos to edit/add later today.

If you really want to have a go at slipping into darkness try matching up models of the prototype with their toy train equivalent... For example prototype model from Atlas American Flyer tin litho Or, how about Prototype model from Atlas Bing tin litho There are, of course, others - Ives, Bing, and American Flyer have a number of cars in common with Atlas models of the prototype.

Well they'll be slipping into darkness, slipping out of sight All through the midnight Watch 'em come and watch 'em go (Oh, go) With only one thing in common They got the fire down below Oh burning down below
Yeah, it happens out in Vegas, happens in Moline On the blue blood streets of Boston Up in Berkeley and out in Queens And it went on yesterday and it's going on tonight Somewhere there's somebody ain't treatin' somebody right

'They got the fire down below Oh burning down below' What a great lyric/slogan for Preparation H to use. Almost as good as 'Ring of Fire' Not that I would know personally.

For some reason I prefer the Dutch Cleanser version where you can see the Dutch girl's/woman's red wooden shoes. Atlas did it both ways.

runamuckchuck - true, they did - the prototype also had asymmetric advertising with the opposite side looking nothing like the side with the lady. It would have really been something if way back when Bing copied the prototype by having the asymmetric advertising.

There must be a Blues song to be written from this thread somewhere.
Slipping into Reefer Darkness by the OGF Band of Misfits

Seeing those Old Dutch Cleanser cars reminds me of the nuns that staffed the grade school I attended. They handled meter-sticks like light-sabers, and you paid a dear price if you crossed them, lol.

I saw this Hoods Refer at the Allentown train show. I have never seen this one before. Almost bought it to add to the collection of Milk cars. Its burgundy color would stand out among all of the green ones. But I passed. I have trouble parking and storing the ones I currently have on sidings all over the layout. www.mthtrains.com/20-94690

Nice car. It is a TCA custom run. They had them at York, and I picked one up there. After paying for it of course.

What I enjoy about the OGF is how the many dimensions of the hobby are conveyed - as well as the unique connections that are made. G Scale? - slipping into darkness - I thought it was about stepping on a bannanna peel and becoming unconscious. Very interesting discussion of the car advertising. Alfred
