Folks had "gardens" in their homes as well, a lot of them. I know a number of folks that grew up in the city's Hampden and Charles Village neighborhoods, and they say that many homes had a small display in the front room of the house, convenient for inviting people inside to see. Train show this coming weekend in Westminster: This is a fun local show (for me, anyway) that has proven to be a good source of stuff over the years.

West of Baltimore near the PA border in Hagerstown, MD is the RoundHouse museum. roundhouse.org/This is a great place to visit all year round, but they have a nice Christmas display layout, a full time O gauge and HO layout and the museum for the Western Md RR. You can also see full scale trains as that site boarders the CSX yard. There used to be a nice hobby shop there called the TrainRoom, but they closed up.
