Don’t forget the long and short shore women. Long story short. Years ago when I was piloting B17s around the country for Air Shows or just yearly scheduled events. There was at one of our stops, a 2 day stop to show off and provide for some the priviledge of taking a flight aboard a restored WW2 B17. There was an older gentleman who was at that time in his upper 70s, he was walking with a cane and wearing a ball cap with a patch of the Fifteenth AF and 100th Bombardment Group. Also on side it had "Pilot". He walked around the plane and touching and patting everything he could reach. As I came up to him, I could hear him humming and every once in while singing a tune, song. We talked for a long time, about the plane, and his experiences, missions, amd crewmen. He had lots of great stories and wish I had more time to listen to more. As I was walking away he started humming again, I asked what the name of the song, and tune he was humming and singing. Which brings up why this post(s) is reminding me of that time, the "Long and the short shore women". The tune and song was "Bless them all, the long and the short and the tall". What a story and who knew that my weak attempt at humor had some sort of validity. Thanks Walt!
