Because of how high the asking prices went with the Base 3 delays, I went to ebay out of curiosity to see what the 990 is selling for since the Base 3 was released. My reaction was . The lowest price on a 990 was $650 and as much as $1000 to $1300 or best offer. One guy had a NIB system for $3200 or best offer. I wonder what kind of drugs his doctor has him on? Are these people crazy? You can get a base 3 for $449 including shipping. At least the TMCC systems have dropped back to the $120-130 range from the $400-500 they'd gone up to.

It’s insane …..and support for the Cab 2 has all but vanished, …..spotty reports of they’re still fixing them, they’re not fixing them, makes one wonder when the bottom falls out for repairing these ……..when the support goes away and there’s no parts available, then you have a 1000 dollar paper weight …..

LOL It’s a good thing that Lionel offers the CAB-1L handheld remote that works with the base-3. Bothe the Base-3 and the CAB-1L remote cost less together than what the crazy asking prices of the old Legacy CAB-2 base set costs.

Those sellers are crazy. Like a fox!
They are preying/ cashing in on the uninformed consumer. They are making bank on hobbyists that don’t really follow the hobby. The go to a store looking for the 990, told it’s discontinued while waiting for a new system. Then that consumer wanting Legacy control NOW scours the internet to find a 990. Not hearing the part about a new system coming.
Then there’s the segment of the universe that pays an outrageous price only to flip it for a higher price, knowing the demand for the 990. Capitalism at its finest.

Not only that but there is a Cab 3 remote in development. Don't believe me? Watch the first few minutes of the Lionel Ryan & David Vol 2 video. Ryan says it quite clearly when describing what you can run the new VL GG-1 with. My English teacher is spinning in her grave as you are not supposed to end a sentence with a preposition.

The secret is out... so don't spend too much money on those old remotes. The question is when will they have one released?

I am using the CAB-1L with the base-3… works fine OK that's great but my statement was about down the road Lionel can/could pull the plug on producing the Cab1L I suppose so … But there are not any indications that they are planning on stopping production of the CAB-1L and dealers are well stocked with CAB-1L’s and it is in the current catalog. Maybe it’s a bit premature to worry about the demise of the CAB-1L?

Maybe it’s a bit premature to worry about the demise of the CAB-1L? Lionel has always had an entry / moderately priced remote with no screen. This one is easy to make and is like having money in the bank for them. I don't see it going away soon.
