I guess I would have to say my great grandfather started my interest in trains. He worked for Ann Arbor railroad. It wasn't until he passed that I found that fact out. When I was knee high to a grasshopper he gave me a battery operated train. It was a large tin toy but I played the heck out of it. My brother received a Lionel set for Christmas around 72. I ended up taking it over since he had no interest in it. I went through N and HO scale through the late 70's and into the 80's. Going into the service, girls,a move to Texas and eventually marriage got in the way of trains. In the mid 90's somehow my wife was able to drag me to a garage sale. Low and behold they had a Lionel set for sale. Negotiated price and walked away with a new to me Lionel set. It was a lower end loco but it was enough to get me going again. Our house was to small for a permanent layout so it was mainly used for under the Christmas tree. We moved back to Michigan at the end of 98. The new house was still quite small but had a basement. So me and my son ended up setting up that train and a ho racetrack on a 4x8 board. It wasn't long he lost interest. So the layout just sat. I decided to sell it all. In 2011 we moved into our new house which already had a mancave of sorts in the basement. It didn't take long and I noticed I had enough room for trains. I ended up buying a few off the eBay and set them up on the floor. In 2013 I started to build my first real layout. That layout was recently dismantled and I am currently working on a new build. Sorry to be long winded .........
