I am having trouble figuring out why my tender whistles all the time. I have tried switching terminals thinking that is the problem but doesn't make any difference. Thanks

First we need to know what you’re working on, and what transformer would help too,…

To best help, we will need to know which tender you have. Tell us what markings you see on it or share photo of it.

Well, we’re getting there, …..still need to know just a wee bit more,…..what kind of O gauge?……obviously this must be some type of steam locomotive, is there a cab number? If you’re not sure, post up a picture of your equipment. There’s literally like thousands of O gauge steam locomotives. For us to better help you diagnose and solve your problem, we need to know what y’all got,…………

Best help would be to see if there is a number on the bottom, if let us know that.

Best help would be to see if there is a number on the bottom, if let us know that. My steam engine is a 1225 and the tender is a great northern 1225. Don't know if this will help but I have three other tenders and they all do the same thing. Seems to me it has something to do with the transformer or how I have it wired to track.

It sounds like the whistle button or lever is stuck and sending DC to the track all the time triggering the whistle. If the button/lever isn’t physically stuck there is something wrong inside the transformer so it sends DC to the track when it shouldn’t. I would suggest trying a different transformer if you have one.

Since the last message I tried a different locomotive and it did not cause the tender to whistle. Therefore for some reason the 1225 locomotive is the problem. Can you tell me why this might be happening. Is there something wrong with the locomotive?

I will try to explain exactly what I see happening. I am running three separate tracks with three different locomotives with each having different tenders and all having there own transformer. All of these locomotives and tenders work as they should by activating the tender by a button on there transformer. That being said the problem arises when I try to run my 1225 locomotive on any of tracks the tenders immediately start whistling as soon as power is applied to the locomotive. With all the testing I have done I am assuming there is something within the locomotive wiring causing this problem. If anyone has heard of such a problem like this could there be a fix that I am missing. Thanks for any help.

does your tender require a battery? Have you taken the tender shell off the frame to see what is inside? do you have any paperwork that came with the engine/tender?

We really need to see what the poster has for equipment. ……..1225 is still kind of vague. That’s why I suggested a picture of what he has so we can help him better. We’re all grasping at straws…….is this a MTH engine? Lionel? Other? ………
