Bill And are they scale GG-1s? I am guessing that they must be and are further "recycling" of existing Lionel tooling. Those with long memories will recall the issues with the last lot of VL GG-1's having a nasty visible seam down the middle of the roof. Also I assume seayakbill got an advance look at the catalog through the copies issued by the L.C.C.A. at its recent meeting.

Yes I assumed that Bill may have seen an actual catalog, if so, I am hoping to hear more.

Bill Nice to hear some preview info of the new catalog. If Lionel didn't want the info out, they wouldn't have given it to convention attendees.
As far as GG-1's go, I think I'm safe. I've been thinning out my GG-1 inventory considerably in recent years. And only two remain: the VisionLine Conrail Becentennial model, and a LioneChief model to pair with some 1990's-vintage Madison car heavyweights circa 1990-ish.
Whether these are Vision Line or just Legacy, I'm not surprised to hear 10 models being offered. That seems to be Lionel's modus-operandi these days, as a means of enticing enthusiast to buy product like they're carelessly tossing poker chips onto the table. And at $1,700 MSRP, they've gotta be VisionLine. The last VL models catalog'd in 2016 carried a $1,400 MSRP.
Frankly, I'd rather see Lionel produce one or two PERFECTLY, instead of delivering 10 models and cutting corners. And let's not forget the handful of "custom runs" that will likely follow as well -- especially the fantasy variety. Heck... I can even see Pat's Trains offering a Black Bonnet GG-1. Now that would look STUNNING in gloss paint, like the recent cylindrical hoppers. You heard it hear first, folks!!! <wink, wink>
BTW, are the passenger car consists the 21" ABS variety? Or 18" aluminum?

A Halloween GG-1 could look absolutely terrifying since the PC black version was spooky enough. Darth Vader's original engine of choice for certain! C'mon METCA make it happen!

Bill I haven't bought any for many years but the Lionel 18" aluminum cars Like the Congressional and Senator sets might possibly be derived from K-Line designs or tooling (like a lot if not the majority of Lionel aluminum body cars over something like 20 years) and in any event will be based on the same basic extrusion process, which produces "generic" body styles that don't have prototypical window placements. I have no interest in the 21" plastic cars, and I can't imagine that there's anything by way of interior assemblies/details in any of them to interest me although I'll pay attention to it.
Thanks very much for the advance warning about this stuff!
