Looks like the Base3 has arrived at Lionels warehouse. Shipping to dealers soon.

Thanks for the update . I have mine on order from Mr Muffin I'll be interested to know what you make of it - but it's an academic interest because I won't get one, if ever, until the bugs are worked out. Aside from how it actually functions with the App, I'm curious if it offers any increase in signal strength runnng under Legacy, which is an issue for me sometimes even with a living room size carpet layout.

Dave tested the base three at the NJ high raiders and a club in the Chicago area. Both very large layouts. It was determined that an internal antenna wasn’t going to cut it. So an external antenna was added for use with cab2 and cab1L remotes As for signal to the tracks no issues were ever reported.

I've already tried a sort of Radio Shack external antenna but did not find that it resolved my issues - unless you already know I'll have to check out what the Hi-Railers used. Running a wire from the Legacy Base serial output alongside the track helped at least in the vicinity of it. As this issue only arises with certain engines and not others I am stumped.

WHAT? serial output? Sorry but that doesn't make sense. Signal to the track is by the U post. One thing that effects signal reception is a bad ground. Not knowing where your layout is and how old the house is. Laying a ground wire below the layout and attaching it to a pipe could help. If you are having issue with more that one Legacy engine i'd bet it's a ground issue. If only a issue with one engine, it's the engine.

It’s the RS232 serial pinout shown below, on the front side of the CAB2, and the suggested ground plane fix is to run a wire from the pin 5 ground near the track. I’ve tried this and it works up to a point.

That’s a new one on me. Did you double check the ground on the outlet you plug your 990 into? Also have you considered a signal booster? Dales’s signal booster

I've never heard of doing that. All my ground plane wires are connected to the AC ground. If that's what they are saying they don't know what they're talking about.

Dales’s signal booster Yeah, I have checked out the outlet, seems OK. Problem started after a bank of room LEDs was installed on what may be the same circuit as I usually use for the Base 2 power.
I followed the signal booster saga for a long while but didn't put my name on the list for one and I thought it was no longer available.
Aside from that, I think that my main issue now is with a particular engine that has a board issue, possibly self-inflicted by me.

I'll just keep it simple because I'm a simple man! Z1000,2 CW80's,and universal remotes. Good enough for me!👍

That could be it, noise from the LED power supplies washing out your signal. I have the same issue with my short wave/am radios. All the noisy switching power supplies in the house. USB chargers or what have you. Why the FCC allows this crap is beyond me.
