I never thought of anything as a Grail item. I may have wanted it but if I missed it, no big deal. I went to something else. Never thinking about the one I wanted before.Even if I saw it again I wouldn't buy just because because I wanted it in the past and a new item took its place. If Grail items are important to you, keep hunting them, you'll find them eventually!!!

MTH American Orient ExpressThis was taken last Friday at my local club. Lots to unpack but worth every minute. Ran like a CHAMP and looks even better in person. Thank you ALL for your kind comments and shares. It's moments like this that make this hobby, or any hobby for that matter, worth every penny spent.

I'm probably cranky or stupid or both but I always appreciate seeing a good O scale Mars Light effect as shown in your video short! Also looks like a smooth runner. Despite an interest in the Euro version of the Orient Express I had no awareness of this US version. I am all in favor of model E8s/9s too.

The American Orient Express ran from 1994-2008 in conjunction with AMTRAK. This model came out in 2002 and has eluded me for nearly 2 decades...until now. Score 1 for the good guys.

Congrats! I picked up one of my few grail items earlier this year. It was an MTH 36' Woodsided reefer car, Pride of Cleveland beer. It was one of a few cars commissioned by a group that calls themselves the Tuesday Night Crew. It was the last MTH Premier 36' Woodsided reefer that I did not have at least one road number of. I had to buy it along with an MTH Railking streetcar but I will sell that to help defray the cost. I would have paid what I paid for the complete auction just for the reefer. My only other Holy Grail item that I am still searching for is the 64 Woodsided Passenger(baggage, combine, observation) 3-car add-on set in CNJ that MTH had made. I have the 3-car passenger set and the 1-car add-on coach, but not the other (20-62020). Anyone want to part with theirs? That's AWESOME...good for you. I'm telling you, they're out there. Just keep searching and it'll come to fruition. I have acquired some sets over the years that most people may have seen but never considered but I'm all about the "fantasy" schemes; although the AOE was a real train, so adding this to my collection is just exciting...and it will NOT be a shelf queen.
