Let's keep politics out of it. There are many places to discuss politics if that is your desire. Fair enough, as long as that admonition is applied equally to the initial trolling ("heartburn", indeed), as well as the response . . .

Fair enough, as long as that admonition is applied equally to the initial trolling ("heartburn", indeed), as well as the response . . . It applies to both sides. Bill posted a photo of a red, white and blue O gauge locomotive. If one of our members posted photos of a Biden locomotive and rolling stock that would be fine and I would admonish anyone who had an anti-Biden comment. One comment leads to another and soon people are arguing politics and that leads to no good. Let's keep politics out of it. There are many places to discuss politics if that is your desire. OK by me. Still got your Trump Loco and rolling stock Joe?😂😂😂😂 Yes I do and they are my favorites and, yes, you can guess my political leanings. If you or anyone has a Biden locomotive feel free to post it. My comment wasn’t just aimed at you but also at anyone who would respond. Political arguments get nasty quickly and don’t change anyone’s mind.

Again, fair enough . . . but posting a pic of what amounts to an O scale political billboard, especially when *acknowledging* in the post that doing so is likely to cause heartburn for others, is trolling, pure and simple, and IMHO is as condemnable as any less veiled political message. At the very least, a mild apology in advance for posting what might be aggravating to at least some would seem to be in order. But, we each have our own filters as to what is "reasonable" and what is "one step too far".

My only contribution to this is to say that I really, really like Country Joe's new Florida East Coast avatar (or whatever is the right description of these signs/symbols we use)! dennym57 also changes his out occasionally, which I enjoy seeing. I have never done this because the Indiana Harbor Belt was an industrial route and never had anything fancy about it. I have thought of using one of the Chicago South Shore & South Bend RR's ridiculous 1970/80s "Little Train That Could" symbols but they were too silly. Oh, p.s., I'm on the same page as Joe as regards political leanings although I confess I don't really like any politicians anywhere.

This only ticks two of the boxes (red and white) but I regard it as patriotic as the baby barstool (as I think of it) belongs to grandson no. 2 who was born on this side of The Pond rather than "over there" where his cousins come from:
I set this up because Grandma carefully arranged this so as to get in my way when I need access to what passes for my workshop (the dining room table).
P.S. For the missing blue in the photo I add something that I think is innocently patriotic, the all-American favorite Corvette Stingray in its modern version. By sheer coincidence the date on the top photo is the 4th of July 2023 when I spotted the car parked outside a Charlotte N.C. hotel. The later version below was part of a mail shot I got this morning from a die cast model dealer and I decided that the blue is horrible:

I want to find an Illinois Central symbol. I grew up by the train line.

If one of our members posted a photo of the Biden locomotive it would certainly give some of our members agita but it wouldn’t be censored, it’s an O gauge locomotive that the poster would likely consider patriotic.

I didn't ask for an apology, and you are completely (deliberately?) missing my point. This was not the case of someone innocently posting a picture that unexpectedly caused a reaction -- it was posted with the upfront acknowledgment by the poster that it likely would cause heartburn for some. To me, that is the very definition of trolling -- posting controversial material with the intent to cause controversy. My point to you was that if political discussions are to be discouraged (with which I fully agree), as you undertook to do in response to the response to the trolling post, some measure of discouragement should fall on the troll as well as the person who fell for the troll's bait. As I said, IMHO a mild upfront apology to those who might be offended should be sufficient to reduce the chances of a heated (political) response and still permit those who wear their politics on their rolling stock to participate without causing agita. But, we each see life through our own filters.
