I talked to Bob and he is not going to York which means I won't be there either. There just not enough people buying videos anymore. I don't know if anyone will occupy the booth in the Orange hall, but it won't be TM Book/Video. Maybe in the spring.

Not my problem I'm just a dealer helper. I spend more time looking for something to bring home.

Sorry to hear that Denny, not encouraging for TM Book and Video sales at this time.
I spoke with Jeff Kane at Train Tender last Monday and he said he is going to York.

That's a tough call, Denny. I know you said you were just "helping", but TM Books/Videos not showing up pretty much douses any chance of people buying on impulse at the show.
Whoever is minding the TM Books/Videos store these days has gotta know that. But they also probably know from previous recent York shows whether it's no longer worth showing up.
Like all business, they've gotta adapt to the times. People have grown accustomed to free videos on YouTube. And I'm not sure anyone is interested in paying for videos of different layouts anymore. The last set of videos I purchased were the 3 DVD/BluRays that Rich Battista produced featuring his superb Black Diamond Rwy layout. Jason (JDStucks) has been documenting his terrific layout inspired largely on Rich's Black Diamond Rwy, but it's all on YouTube. So a new generation of modelers is doing things very differently. And it certainly sounds like it's been disruptive to the former video business model, where a crack video crew traveled around to layouts to professionally produce videos for sale. I think those days might be permanently in our rear-view mirrors. Someone please enlighten me if I'm wrong.

No your not wrong Dave, I have a pretty large collection of train videos, prototype and models and now I rarely watch them. Most of my watching train videos is on YouTube. When was the last time anyone went to a video store to rent videos to watch on a Saturday night? The era of selling videos is at the end.

It was the consensus at TM that there wasn't enough sales to justify driving from Michigan to York, paying for a hotel room for four days, three nights.

The “labor of love” stage of a business can only last so long. And then you can’t fight the math. It’s amazing what can be produced with a good iPhone these days — both from a capture as well as video editing perspective. Certainly “good enough” by most people’s standards.

Might make sense for TM to think about transitioning to an online service. Maybe a YouTube channel that solicits Patreons or other paying members that then get access to more content. The age of buying content on physical media is quickly disappearing.

The age of buying content on physical media is quickly disappearing. I think they do online. Jeff McComas does videos on YouTube. I not sure what this has to do with going to York.
