Looks like the sort of thing the surgeon leaves inside of you during an operation. LOL Kinda large to leave inside a patient don't you think lol runamuckchuck , the Y at the end acts like a little pliers when you squeeze the handle together, work good on the tin plate metal tabs. You would do best by gently twisting the tabs rather than bending them. Bending them fatigues the metal severely and thus causes a failure/breakage. If you twist them (only enough to prevent the shell from coming off the chassis) they will be able to be untwisted to do other maintenance in the future without breaking off the tabs.
I learned the hard way over the decades. Hope this helps.
