Hi all, hope everyone is doing well. I'm about to start a project and would like some advice. I have a Atlas 60 ft. ACF auto parts boxcar that is decorated for Atlas anniversary. I would like to repaint it then letter for PRR, Conrail, or NS. Finding boxcar red rattle can paint is nearly impossible to find online as well as decals for this specific model. Any ideas? Are there other decals such as decals for other models that could be adapted for this model?

As to spray paint, check out the Rustoleum red Primer. I've used it and a pretty close match for Boxcar red. LOL, we had boxcars a couple years ago at our Terminal when I was still working and to check it out, I sprayed some on a boxcar and when dry, couldn't tell the difference. That's why I have used it, rather then spend 30.00.

I'm a fan of Tru-Color and Tamiya paints. Strip the model first and then use primer. I assume it's plastic and not diecast metal. A 24 hour bath in 91% isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush will bring it down to bare plastic. Use the same brand of primer for the brand paint you decide on. Same with the clear coat at the end. Avoid the temptation to use big box store spray cans if you can. Why not try forum sponsor highballgraphics.com/ for decals? I have used them and he even made me some custom decals.

Just finished this. My first attempt at repainting and relettering. Not perfect and the data is not 100% correct but I'm happy with the results!

Very nice. Where did you end up getting decals from?
I need custom decals. My go-to source Highball has not returned email or phone. I hope Jim is Ok K4 and Fusion Graphics are not taking custom orders right now. I just contacted A company in Canada called PDC. Fingers crossed.

They were for an 86 ft boxcar but I adapted them best I could. I might add they are very nice decals. Don't know if they make custom decals but it wouldn't hurt to ask.
