Isn't it SAD that Lionel asks hundreds and even thousands of dollars for their items and then offer NO SUPPORT for defects or incorrect manufacturing. Essentially laughing in the faces of their customers. And on top of that, people PAY these outrageous prices and then have to spend EVEN MORE of their OWN money and time to make repairs or corrections to NEW items. And people wonder why the hobby is dying ........... Same for Lionel's "build to order" where they collect customer funds and hold them for extended periods of time (collecting the interest on those funds) and then FAIL to produce said items that were advertised. And then the customer has to fight to get funds returned. Lionel has also left their dealers in the lurch more times than not with similar sketchy practices. I agree, and would add that the some dealers add to the problem by continuing to sell items with known defects to unsuspecting customers.

Unfortunately if we want to complain to those truly to blame for this disgrace all we have to do is look in the nearest mirror. We as purchasers of these new ever more expensive trains are enablers plain and simple.

Lionel doesn’t require any prepayment from dealers for catalog order items, nor custom runs. There are plenty of dealers that offer preorders without a deposit. If you receive an item and don’t like it for whatever reason, return it to the dealer where you bought it. I, for one, get terrific warranty support from Lionel and I have never been stuck with anything. For the rare occurrence where I have an issue that couldn’t be resolved, Lionel has accepted my return without any drama.
As to the hobby dying, I sure haven’t seen signs of that. The hobby is growing as more people are entering the hobby now then in the past.

It is not often we are privy to that kind of information. As consumers we are or should be pleased that quality dealers such as you do not get put in a difficult position with these types of issues. The genesis for this tread started when the Sleigh Bell Limited was delivered with the misspelled Yuletide car and the lack of response from Lionel concerning any corrective action they planned to take. In this case the disenchantment was for those who did not want to return the set but just wanted some corrective action. I for one look forward to your comments every time you wish to make them.

Just a thought but since every Tom, Dick, and Harry that bought one of those cars has the same mistake then instead of making a simple correct spelling label why not turn out a custom series of mistake labels to give the cars an individualized mistake look? Two that immediately come to mind would be Yuleedit and Yueldiet - when running the trains during the holidays the second one could also be used as a subliminal reminder about not over doing it around Christmas.

I don’t hate that idea.

I want the Southern version…”Y’all Tide” I thought that was "Roll Tide"? Or would that be too parochial?

Thanks for the responses everyone! I’ll be moving forward with the order, and will keep everyone who expressed interest up-to-date.
Last call for any takers this week. The order will be placed early next week. So let me know now if you want a pair of YULETIDE plates.
