All print media is on the decline for many of the same reasons sighted by Dave. Advertising, retail sales, have gone online and layouts once featured in magazines can be viewed on You Tube in a movie format with a story. Print media like CTT, Model Railroader and OGR are on their way to obsolescence. I do not subscribe to either. Its a sign of the times.

My CTT subscription expired with the Nov/Dec 2023 issue. In the fall Kalmbach had a discount on their Trains Unlimited subscription so I decided to give it a try. I have access to every issue of all five of their magazines from the first Model Railroader in 1934 to the current issues, plus a lot more like track plans, videos, project layouts, etc. I think I’ve gotten my money’s worth and will renew when the time comes. I think paper magazines will go the way of the dinosaur but services like Trains Unlimited will be around for a long time to come.

What a great layout. I couldn't believe some of those pictures weren't real.

Like others have said, I used to enjoy CTT and OGR magazines when they arrived. In addition to the stories, I REALLY did enjoy the advertisements also. Especially the big 2 pagers with tiny print of 100's of engines and their prices.
But, also like others, I consume my content from other sources that are timely and free.
As I type this online right now, I have three train forums open, YouTube, and Trainz.com. It's like a SUPER MAGAZINE on steroids.

I've been a subscriber to CTT since the late 1990s. I stayed with them when the number of issues was increasing, even though the size of the issues was decreasing. I continued as a subscriber when the number of issues began to decrease...9...8...6. But now, when the magazine is down to only four issues, as it was when it started in 1987, and the issues are very thin, the value has reached the tipping point. It's just not worth bothering with. My subscription expires with the next quarterly issue. I will not be renewing.

Being relatively new to the hobby, I find a lot of suppliers in these magazines that I somehow miss on google. My model RR magazines are the only print publications I subscribe to, and even though print magazines are obsolete I hope they keep these alive, even if on a reduced frequency.

I also enjoy print better than on line. Tough being an ol' fart these days.
