...
I prefer scale model trains these days but I still love my few post war and semi scale trains. I have thirteen other scale GG1s from MTH, Lionel, 3Rd Rail and Williams. (Hmmm, I should probably even out that number). Even when my roster needed SEVERE downsizing, I never owned 13 scale GG-1's. You win the "buying trains like a drunken sailor" award HANDS DOWN!!! LOL!!!
The best part of owning a semi-scale GG-1 and running it with a string of Lionel Madison cars is the nostalgia factor of Lionel using that train on its legendary 1949 Showroom Layout in NYC. It was a staple train running on the outside loop down to the subway level of that magnificent layout.
David, thank you, I will graciously accept the award! LOL! But, I didn’t buy them all at once. Probably over a twenty year period.
As much as I love all of my trains, I’ve never looked upon them with nostalgia. Mostly because they were always around. But even as an adolescent I detested having to be tethered to the ZW. I was always dreaming of something better. Imagine my glee when command control was born! Especially when I could still control my older trains with a remote controller.

Oh how I can picture you stepping into a DeLorean and bringing your Legacy/TMCC command system back in time to Lionel's 1949 Showroom Layout. It would be a scene straight out of "Back To The Future". And I couldn't imagine a better person to take on that role!!!

I have several GG1's all of them are from 1947 to 1958. All original with full stripes. My favorite engine. In around 1954 I was working as a page at NBC at 30 rock. a fellow page Came to work with a 2330 new in the box. He sold it to me for $25. I kept it for a while, and then took it out to train world and traded it for a mantua HO steam engine. I'm still kicking myself.

They’d probably try to burn me on a stake!

Eddie, that reminds me of when my Grandfather traded in our Flyer train sets for some N scale trains.
