Just saw a note that the 1218 will be fully restored to operational service by the NC Transportation Museum!

A well-deserved part of many a modeler's N&W steam triumvirate: 611J, Y6b, and A-class #1218. I suspect in due course, we'll see a Lionel Legacy A-class #1218 announced as well.

Sounds like a wonderful idea but where the heck is it going to be used? With the NS prohibitions that are in place, the 611 has had a lot less to do.
Maybe UP will entertain guest visits from the NS. They know how to get it done.
It will be a good excuse to make another trip to the NC Transportation Museum. Maybe combine it with the Polar Express festivities that are at the museum at some point.

After doing some research and asking a few people on another forum, I can conclude at 1218 is not being restored right now. 611 is going to Spencer in November for a fundraising event. Don’t know what it is for but Which could be a 1218 fundraiser.
If you’re a member of that page, please screenshot and share the post. Thanks

There’s a discussion about it on OGR, would be nice but not likely anytime soon.

Yeah that discussion will be one sided and brash by individuals that I can not bear. I am keeping my hopes up.

We have not seen anything from the Va Museum of Transportation or from the 611 group. A cooperative and interested railroad is probably needed and UP is about the only one that I see willing at the present time to do this.
But as N and W fans, go for it.

As said this not true. This was spectaculation that came from someone on Facebook or the other forum when North Carolina Transportation Museum was making a special announcement this past Thursday. The announcement had not even been made yet and someone speculated that 1218 was going to restored. Then it escalated into a rumor on Facebook and I guess on the other forum.
The museum has not even raise the money to build the building they wanted to have to work on and to store 611 yet. This sounds like this is still in the plans but there is no money to do it. In the mean time they have to pay NCTM to use their facilities to work on 611 during the winter months which is what they are doing again this year. Furthermore, there is no place to run 1218. The only place they can run 611 is at museums right now. From what I read, it also questionable if 1218 can even be restored due to the condition of the engine.
