This Sunday the TCA SNE train meet is going to be held in East Greenwich, RI . There will be 35 vendors and for the first time, in my model train life, I will be a vendor. I am a little intimidated because this is not what I normally do. Greeting dozens of people and trying to sell them products is not my style. I don't even have a clue as to how much to ask for these products. However, I have a lot of stuff under my layout that I will never use. It is time to clean house. At the end of the day, if I have anything left, I plan on "giving" it to those guys who do this for a living. My plan is to come home with a few bucks and an empty truck. Wish me luck. Any advice?

Good luck, Wood. If you price things right they should all go. Put a big sign on your table that says something like NO REASONABLE OFFER REFUSED so people get the idea that you are willing to negotiate.

Good Luck Wood! I'm in a similar boat. I need to get a table at a good local Train Meet and thin out my collection.

If it was a little closer, we would go, if only to see Woos & Kathy.

Good luck, Wood!! Price things to sell, and you'll go home empty.
Having a table at a train meet is a completely different experience compared to not having one. I've had a table at York for many years, and thoroughly enjoy it. These days, success as a table-holder is all about price. The market for toy trains has changed a lot in the last 10-20 years, so if you want to move your trains, you have to be competitive with your pricing. At last April's York meet, one of my table-neighbors gave me a bit of a hard time about my pricing, and I said to him, "Hey, this is a train sale, not a museum." If you're unsure about how to price your items, the Greenberg guides are a good place to start and generally work down from there.
Wood, a few unsolicited tips: 1: Bring money to make change. 2: Bring bags / paper to wrap the items you sell; your customers will appreciate it. 3: Bring a folding chair, just in case there isn't one for you at your table. 4: Remember this: How do you make a small fortune collecting toy trains? Start with a large fortune! 5: Both parties should walk away from the transaction happy and feeling like they got a fair deal. Anything other than that takes away the enjoyment. 6: Last, but not least, bring hand sanitizer. You're going to be meeting / shaking hands with a lot of people, and who knows where those hands have been??!!??
Looking forward to hearing how it went.

I'll definitely bring a folding chair, never thought about that. Not looking for a small fortune, just want to clean out items I will never use. Lots of interesting good stuff and I hope to do well. Hope you and Sue are well. My regards to you both.
