Was taking a casual stroll through engines on eBay this afternoon and found a Hiawatha Hudson that is supposedly NIB that intrigued me. I placed my bid right as the timer expired and to my surprise, won it. Unfortunately there was a DD40ax also NIB from the same seller ending just shortly after. It was a soft spot for me because I've always wanted one, I thought why not take a crack at it. Well, won that one to. Don't think I got taken to bad on them, only set me back $740 total for the pair. It looked alot more of a deal before all the taxes and shipping! Either way, my collection and mostly my Union pacifics continue to grow!

(And you would not have got them both at that price at any other auction.)

Are they Lionel or MTH?

The initial price made me cringe a little, but the more I'm thinking of it, the more it does seem like a great bargain, and for two engines at that. I could only get one for that or quite a bit more for almost anything else, especially new.

I been looking at that PRR MTH Atlantic 4-4-2 on E Bay. Not worried it is a PS2. I remember they were super detailed.

A little different but still in eBay
Back a couple months ago I bought a 1835E ( actually 2 at different times ) anyway trying to make set 366W. It comes with 309, 310, & 312 in light blue with silver roofs. I originally bought light brown with dark brown roofs as I couldn't find the correct cars and when I did they where a lot more than I was willing to pay ( close if not $500 by time you add shipping and tax.) even the brown where like $350+ by time you added shipping and tax. well today I got lucky, some one must not of know what they were worth as they were $185 BIN with shipping and tax it came out to just shy of $220 so now I will have the correct 366W set. 🙂
So now have to decide to keep the brown set or not.

When considering a choice when buying trains, the Traindiesel Train Buying System protocol says you always choose both!! A little different but still in eBay

I been looking at that PRR MTH Atlantic 4-4-2 on E Bay. Not worried it is a PS2. I remember they were super detailed. Be aware that the MTH PRR Atlantic's boiler was stretched quite a bit to make room for the smoke unit. The model doesn't have the chunky look of the real thing. The most accurate and detailed 3-rail model is the 3rd Rail E6s. Lionel's model has the chunky look, but details are mostly part of the casting.

You were able to buy T W O engines for $740.00? Man, you got a steal! Hope they are in VG shape! Kudos to you.

jdekan, you got a good buy. There is always the tinge of buyer's remorse. Enjoy them. It pays to use a digital display clock and click often. Alfred

Tender has the chains a lot of detail in cab, and on boiler. I sold mine over 2 years ago and regretted selling it. Missed how it ran and its looks. Again, just thinking. Besides, LOL, I auctioned mine and got over 500.00. Maybe see if they would take 450.00 for it. Just for the record, I'm not a rivet counter. Otherwise would have to dump 3/4 of my O scale/gauge items.

I really have a love/hate relationship with eBay. Most of what I'd like to purchase every now and then is WAY OVERPRICED. Each time I'm looking for something in particular, the shysters want 3X or 4X what the price should be. They can have it.
But then on rare occasions, I'll find something that's reasonably priced... only to have the item get routed throughout the entire country via USPS Priority Mail. I just purchased two pieces of rolling stock from a seller located in Morrisville, PA... just on the PA side of the Delaware River across from Trenton NJ. I live about half-an-hour away in Doylestown PA. Yet somehow my package was routed to the south shores of Maryland along the Chesapeake!
Can't make up this kind of stuff. The package is now working its way back to Philadelphia... and hopefully will be back on track where it belongs.

Both engines arrived today. Happy to say they were NIB as described. Definitely not feeling the sting anymore and feeling it was a great deal now seeing them in person! Can't wait to get these on the track! Attachments:
