….The fall car show at Hershey draws 250,000 people and you do not have to be an AACA member. Anyone can come and that's part of the success formula. Same at Carlisle; just pay your admission and enter….. Well, just about everyone owns a vehicle. Not everyone owns and operates model trains. I always thought that the York Meet’s Achilles heel are the days the event is held. Thursday through Saturday isn’t going to draw crowds as well as Saturday and Sunday shows. That’s the only problem I can see for drawing attendance. And the Meet still draws a decent crowd on those days even with the other buying options out there.

Got my badge today! Still not 100% sure I'm going, but... Badges? We don’t need no stinking badges! HaHa... Love that line. I had no idea it was in so many movies if you include the reference to badgers. I like the last one the best.

Blazing Saddles has always been a favorite, having seen it first in an old small-town theater some forty years ago. I often wonder if that movie could even be made today in the "politically correct", hypersensitive times we live in.

They would send a lot of people scurrying to their safe places.

The show is not what is was. Well since I am not what I used to be either it seems as though York is the perfect meet for me! Yes that is the point. York is not what it used to be attendance wise by hobbyists, train companies, O gauge magazines and O gauge dealers and the drop off is significant. However, it's probably a great show for prewar and postwar trains.

And there are plenty of modern O gauge trains available for sale. For all the dealers that no longer attend there are smaller ones that took their place with plenty of modern inventory. In addition a couple of dealers have been returning at recent Meets.
And that’s great if you’re only interested in buying trains. There’s so much more social activity in addition to enjoy. That’s why I say it’s a week long party!

Started my shopping list. Mostly parts, but a late Lionel 2656 would be nice too.
Eddie, will you have a table at this go-round?

There are many positives about the York show and if you are into O gauge trains (and have big needs) it is certainly still worth attending. The only point that I was trying to make is that it has changed. While some things have stayed the same its just not the same show as it was going back 10 years ago. Some of my favorite dealers like Scenic Express and many of the train companies have pulled out. The big question that I have is why has Amherst and Allentown grown while York has gone the other way??

It may have gone the other way a little bit, but it is still the biggest O gauge, S gauge & standard gauge (meet)show by far.

I don't believe it is as far off as you may believe. Scenic Express left because he moved west. Charles Rio pulled out as he was getting older then passed. The children are not interested in York (distance and labor involved). Same with Nicholas Smith. I talked with a few dealers still going and they claim York is still King. I can tell you that Amherst is too far for me and Allentown was swamped Saturday till 1 pm and then fell on it's face thru Sunday. Sales evaporated. As for Saturday Morning their was a tremendous crowd that was looking not buying. I was unfortunate to be there Saturday morning and I can tell you it was so crowded it took all the joy out of being there. A lot of pushing and shoving and people just stopping in the middle to chat. I guess I am too old as I was taught if you want to chat move to the side so people can get thru. I chat and I love to chat but I move so people can get by. Also if I bump someone I apologize. Very rare to hear that today. Yes there may not be as many manufacturer's or dealers at York but those there are doing OK and some are expanding their presence.

I have no axe to grind, I am just asking.

Curtis, That is not the reason that C. Ro doesn't go anymore. The reason is it's become too expensive. He has to bring 4 people with him for 4 nights hotel, and feed them. Also the gas for a truck and trailer 400 miles each way, Not cheap.
