I usually have a small layout around the tree with the Polar Express or Harry Potter. The cats love to sit and watch it while the dog chases the train.

I was working on my Christmas Village this evening. Had the Polar Express running. I've got a few power drops I need to make but things are running well so far. Power drops are the most work for me with a temporary floor layout. Keeping the wires organized is something I am working on this year to do a better job with. Lionel Fastrack usually has electrical continuity problems especially when you take it apart and put back together again the next year. I am using both traditional tubular track and Fastrack this year. However, Fastrack Is where I need to spend the most time with in testing of running trains! That's exactly my situation. The Fastrack isn't as tight as the first time it was put together. In a couple cases I ran jumper wire underneath the track connections between two pieces of track. It works but it's time consuming. Emile It is really fustrating when engine loses power because loose track or lose of power going to the track. Last years layout caused me to have this issue in some almost impossible to reach places to fix it which is one of the problems in having temporary layout. It is best to bend the center pin with a pair of pliers on Fastrack inward a little bit to improve the connection. Then on tempoary layout were you cant screw the tracks down, use small binding clips between each section of track to keep the tracks together. I knew this last year but mistakenly did not do it! I also use more power blocks than required with Fastrack as DCS signal strength degrades more with it. I have not used jumper wires between tracks yet, but have thought about trying it in the more harder places to reach the track on my Christmas Layout.

My Christmas train is just under the tree. I put two loops a Six foot Real trap and a smaller four footer. I have a PRR Tuscan GP-9 pulling Christmas cars from Lionel and MTH and on the smaller one have the K-Line Coach Cola bears on their handcar pulling two other cars.

to really replicate a Christmas layout one needs that old lionel track with those pin thingies that get bent and rusted. pun intended on rusted track pins

Some of best Christmas displays I’ve ever seen belong to many of you fellow forum members. I plan to have a simple Post War loop around the tree with some of my Mom’s creations serving as scenery. I sort of have a problem: two buffalo disguised as Maine Coons. These two guys are now 20+ lbs a piece (not yet two years old) and they love watching trains. Thankfully, they’re pretty good and don’t damage anything; occasionally we have “Godzilla walking through downtown Tokyo”. So, the scenery department is currently weighing its options....

We have the same concern here. Our girls are just fine when supervised. They’re happy to watch the train or watch the layout being constructed but we never leave them alone around the tree. They won’t bother the train on purpose but if they get in a mood for wrestling, everything is in danger: the train, the tree, lamps, my knees, etc. Emile

We had small poodle for 12 years that hardly touched my Christmas Train Layout. May have knocked down a few trees and liked curlying up on the soft cotton once in awhile. She would come sit in my lap while setting up my layout which meant me taking a break from the setting up for awhile. Unfortunately, we lost her a year ago due to health issues. Think about her often as she occasionally jumped over my running trains in trying to make her way to the patio door to go outside. Here she is jumping over my Lionel MR 261...this was somewhat staged! LOL!

I will be happy if I can get a train running under the tree this year. One of the problems of living in Florida is that since we have no basements storage space is limited. Your right, no basements in Florida and the average homes don't have large rooms. I was lucky my wife allowed me to have the biggest bedroom. Our Christmas tradition has been to always been to put my brothers Sears "O27" train under the tree along with the accessories that came with the set. Mostly for memories. If at Christmas time I remember, I'll take a pic to post. Nothing exciting, just memories.
