Above is a side shot photo of two cabooses. A Pennsylvania 536417 ‘New York Zone’ N5C porthole type (Lionel, 1953-55, unpainted) – my favorite, now and as a kid. The other is a Lionel SP style (painted body with die-cast smokestack, 1949-52). They are both lighted (14V). Their neat feature is that they have magnetic working couplers at both ends – making them available for mid-consist use, and making switching more interesting. Alfred

So, here’s a side shot of one end of an A-A pair that I regard as a hit in terms of Lionel’s recent production, an E8 in Frisco livery:

Harborbelt70, Is it the style or degree of detail that makes it a hit? Alfred (PS, You'll have to have a topside for next Tuesday - I'm all out.)

Harborbelt70, Is it the style or degree of detail that makes it a hit? Alfred (PS, You'll have to have a topside for next Tuesday - I'm all out.) It’s purely (1) the paint scheme and (2) the fact that it works as it should, at least for now, which is always a great relief. I do have have a video of this pair somewhere that I will try to post. Noted about Tuesday - I have got something in store.

Love this Caboose even though I don't run B&O, somehow it fits in and manages to slide in at the end.

A pair of Lionel skeleton log cars. They’re pretty decent and all diecast, but what Lionel calls “sprung trucks” are only dummies there for looks. I may go for some less imposing logs - these plastic ones are a little too Fred Flintstone for me. Dave

Walt, Funny about how cabooses find their way to the end. B&O - a good road. Alfred

Dave, Fred and Barney would not disapprove of the logs. Try some small diameter cut tree branches. Alfred Brian has got a log consist with cut branches - see the Natural Materials thread.
