My local club just received a few 50s Lionel donations. As our 3-rail blacksmith and tinkerer, I was drafted into reviving this Lionel 624 switcher and broke out the high-tech tools. I’m happy to report it’s alive 👍👍 - film at eleven. Let’s see your old train revivals. Dave

Dave, Nice job on the 624 revival. Fortunately, none of my post war Lionel equipment has needed severe attention. The most work was done on a crane car and S2 Turbine - limited to replacement parts and rigorous internal cleaning respectively. Alfred

A good deep clean and re-lube, plus some contact cleaner and elbow grease worked for this little beast. Dave.

Unfortunately I only have one PW locomotive left, A 2344 aba NYC F3. IT needs some work but it is in very nice condition. I have had it since around 1950, when I was 4 years old. I will never sell it. I will pass it on.

I have a Lionel set I received for Christmas around 1965. It has a 2-4-2 steam loco and whistle tender. The loco runs very erratically so I'm trying to work up the courage to take it apart and try to fix it up. Its by no means a high end set but it has great sentimental value to me.

There are many YouTube videos showing how to maintain postwar engines.

I HAVE ONE THAT RUNS GREAT. YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK!

Here are my three favorite post-war engines. First we have the 671 turbine. I bought this already refurbished. The prior owner did a great job and even added a light on the back of the tender. Next we have a nice, though not perfect, UP F-Unit AA. Runs like a champ, horn works perfectly, and got it for a good price, probably because it is imperfect cosmetically. And, of course, my favorite, the F-Unit (dummy) that I redid in B&M Minuteman scheme. I still marvel at how well it turned out. First time I have ever attempted anything of the sort. For those we may have joined the forum recently, I chronicled my trials and tribulations learning how to paint and apply decals here: o-gaugeforum.com/thread/7853 Here is the prototype that was the inspiration. Note that I decided that i wanted silver trucks. I think makes the model really looks special. In fact, some photos of the cousin engine, 4266, shows them in steel, not black.

Firewood, Keep us posted about the condition/ repairs of the other post war items that were donated. Alfred Will do, Alfred. There are quite a few items that need a clean and lube. There’s also an old wooden kit-build that has seen better days, but I have plans for it. I have some old-school printed card boxcar sides that will look good on it. Dave

Now I am not sure if this qualifies as post war as this set is from the 1960's. It was mostly in good shape when I got it but I did a fair amount of maintenance on it. I got this General set at Amherst a few years back and it is a very nostalgic model for me. My first train was a General (which I still own but it is in rough shape). This model even came with the original box and Super O Track.
