I nearly fell off my chair on seeing just now an email circular from Pat's Trains advertising some new RMT tank cars at less than $29 each! Isn't that competitive with Menards? The cars themselves look more prototypical than most things done by Lionel or MTH these days. They are worth a look even if you are not in the market: www.patstrains.com/View_Details/?ID=64255
I've screen-grabbed a photo of one of them and you'll notice what the caption says about "affordable." So I don't think that the prices are an error but we'll see. If they are right there will probably be greed merchants on eBay reselling them!
P.S. I wonder where the tooling for these came from?
P.P.S. Now Walter of RMT has gone into print on the other forum saying that there are four more versions of these cars coming 'in the next container' arriving in June and the Deep Rock tanker pictured looks mighty nice to me: ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/topic/rmt-96899-43-deep-rock-oil-tank-car-pre-production-photos#lastReply

I recall that being close to the price point of the upcoming — and a bit overdue — RMT ore cars as well. Hopefully they’ll be on the same container!!!

I cant find anyone other than Pats Trains as a retailer. Maybe they will show up at the train meets

Maybe they will show up at the train meets He must have other retailers because if you look on the RMT website, there are 20+ versions of these cars being made and 8 of them are said to be at RMT dealers already; the Pat’s Trains models are just a few of them. As to who these retailers are I dunno! P.S. I just noticed that TRAINWORLD is one of them and has the tank (and ore) cars listed on their site: www.trainworld.com/shop-by-brand/rmt-ready-made-trains.html?p=2

Is it me or does the truck on the left in the picture look like the inner wheel set is not centered in the truck?

Great looking tankers and interesting price point. I wonder if they are indeed trying to bring customers back from Menards. Either way, if anyone gets one of these please report back on the quality of them. Interesting.

Yeah, that looks pretty odd - but this may not be a photo of a completed product as opposed to a sample for advertising purposes. Others in this series of tankers have already been sold so if there is an assembly issue we’ll know soon enough.

They do look very nice and are built similar to Menards except they have diecast couplers and trucks. Looks like RMT has a winner here. RMTs only issues are delivery of product. If they can get them to market in a timely manner they should be a success.

… RMTs only issues are delivery of product. If they can get them to market in a timely manner they should be a success. … Very true. Don’t hold me to it, but I think the ore cars are coming up on close to a year overdue… if not more. It gets to the point that we forget if we even ordered them by the time they actually arrive. 😳

The RMT tank cars are very nice. However they have coupler issues. I believe it’s from the molded in hose gets in the way and they don’t couple correctly and they uncouple or cause derailments. I was going to buy a few of them until I heard this.
Walter of RMT is aware of the issue and has stated they are going to fix the trucks and couplers for future tank and ore cars.
I wonder if the coupler issue is why these are a little less expensive now.

I decided to get one of the tank cars that caught my eye although with shipping it was less of a bargain than the advertised price:
I have to say that the construction is a little, er, rickety and it's sub-scale but on the whole pleasing at first look. Graphics are well done although the photo doesn't really do that justice. I wouldn't go in for multiple versions of this although the "Deep Rock" ones look nice but are not available yet.

That is a nice looking car. Is it made by RMT?
