My latest eBay find is this Brooklin model of the 1934 Chrysler Airflow. I love the blue color, chrome and whitewalls. I usually sort my search’s by cost. That way I can see what is on the lower end of the scale and I turn on the “Buy it now” feature. I never get into an auction situation. That usually ends up being too expensive. If I see something within my budget and of interest I go for it. THAT is a really, truly beautiful model - especially the whitewalls. It looks to be in original condition save that the paint is so highly polished that it might be a respray by someone who knew what they were doing!
Anyway, a find like this kind of justifies eBay's existence, IMHO.

All my fault. I am the one responsible for Andy's love of nice 1:43 models.

I have sold and bought on eBay for many year's but its no longer worth my time to do it now. I do check to see if something is out there and what they are being sold for. Then I go looking for it somewhere else. It seems around five years ago the rise of sellers on eBay that try to sell at the highest prices possible. They give the entire eBay community a bad name.

I think there are still deals to be had, but certainly not for all types of items. As Brian points out, occasionally a good deal on Brooklins do surface.

David, over the past 1 1/2 years, there have been outstanding buys for Brooklin Models on eBay. Nice to know that the Brooklin Models community hasn't been infiltrated with the shyster-mentality that now dominates O-Gauge toy trains. With very few exceptions, many of the O-Gauge eBay sellers are downright pathetic with their pricing. And they make no attempt to hide their greed.

I’m an occasional e-bay buyer. Usually an item that for some reason is hard to find. Recently I picked up the Lionel NYC x31 boxcar that I had been looking for about a year. E-bay has become more of a selling platform rather than an auction site.

I also use e-bay to look for hard to find items and to price compare.

The average Brooklin collector is very savvy. They are the filtration system to weed out wacko sellers.

I think the reason eBay prices are so high is that sellers have to price them that high in order to walk away with any kind of profit after the high eBay and shipping fees. The cut that eBay takes these days is so high that it's barely worth selling a lot of things these days.
Yes, there are the price gougers out there, but I think on the whole people are just trying to make a profit. So no, I no longer think eBay is a good barometer of what something is worth. It used to be back when their fees were lower so sellers wouldn't have to inflate the prices.

Just look at Adam's images and you see high quality. These models spoil you.
When I got to the point of placing vehicles on our new city (5 years ago), I had about 26 Brooklins (with a few other high end models) mixed in with maybe 100 much cheaper models and I just could not do it. I gave the 100 away. I never looked back.
It took me four years to build a quality vehicle inventory to fill our city streets, and I loved every minute of the "hunt". Visitors to our layout get as much a kick out of our city streets as they do the trains.
My advice, start slow. If you look on eBay, you can find bargains for Brroklins in the 20-$30 range.
Great job, Adam. Your collection is gorgeous and growing. Emile has a beautiful collection of Brooklin Models as well.

I have been buying & selling on Ebay since 1999. I love Ebay. I check prewar & post war every day. I have only returned about 3 or 4 items in the 24 years I have been on it. I believe I have had no more than 2 or 3 items returned to me. My feedback has been 100% positive. I have never had a negitive feedback.

I go on Ebay to see what's for sale, but I have to laugh when I see the same thing for different prices. You also have to read the description very carefully.
