Here is a shot I took with my cell phone a couple years ago. I was walking out to my train in the Hoboken N.J. Terminal coach yard and this set of engines came off the service track, headed for the depot. The Engineer would retire a few weeks later. I had the image enlarged and framed under glass and gave it to him as a retirement gift... Tom

Thanks Gary. The guys at the photo place I used to have it enlarged, were surprised that I took the photo with an old IPhone 5! The picture was just by chance that day...

Great photo Tom. I didn't know Metro North locomotives went to Jersey. Joe, we operate the old Erie lines that extend up into New York State, from Hoboken. The Line to Port Jervis,NY and the line to Spring Valley NY are owned by Metro North in NYS but since we run the trains there, Metro North provides a certain number of Locomotives and coaches to cover the service. This MNCR equipment is dedicated to "West of the Hudson" service. We never get anything that you would see on the east side of the Hudson, like on the Harlem Line the Brewster Line into Grand Central Terminal. The equipment on the west side of the Hudson, ends up in basically a "pool service" and can be assigned to any train on the Hoboken Division no matter of the line or destination. Tom

Tom Thanks for this info, Tom. While I lived in the Mid Hudson Valley for about 16 years I was an east of the Hudson guy and don't know much about railroading west of the Hudson other than the CSX tracks on the west bank of the river.

A friend took a picture of me at work last week. A Metro North pool train that found itself in Lackawanna territory at Port Morris, NJ. I am running the train up to the fueling track. After the engine is serviced, we shove the train back to its assigned layover track, where car inspectors and coach cleaners do their work... Tom

Yeah, it is fun!
I always enjoyed the challenge running locomotives. Some days were great, some awful, like any job I guess. I work a yard job now as I had enough excitement for a while..lol.
The photo was taken by a fellow Engineer, Ben Armand.
