Given how successful Lionel has been with their latest runs of Big Boys and N&W Class As, it looks like the upper end of the toy train market is going strong. For me,, I am, with great anticipation, waiting for my Custom MTH Premier Central Maine & Quebec AC-4400 Cab # 1002 and an MTH DULUTH WINNIPEG & PACIFIC RS-11. Both of which should be here in 2023.
From Lionel I ordered a custom run Legacy 2-8-0 that will be lettered as a Housatonic Railroad locomotive. All three should arrive on my door step in 2023! Plus I also have assorted rolling stock on order from Atlas, MTH and Lionel that should arrive this year as well. It looks like 2023 is shaping up to be a great year!

Nothing for me this year but I look forward to seeing the items the members of the OGF may receive. New or trains from the secondary market. All trains are good.

Nothing for me this year but I look forward to seeing the items the members of the OGF may receive. .... I hear ya, Dave. Today Trainworld announced two Lionel ES44's in Flying Tiger liveries that look pretty cool, but they're $750/each. Then I remembered I have two carry-over "military" jewels still to be delivered from 2022 pre-orders: a United States Space Force SD70ACe from Legacy Station, and a P51 Mustang SD70ACe. Both at substantially lower prices than the 2023 models. It's getting easier and easier to ignore the new stuff and just be content with stuff I already own or stuff that's still due in from 2022. Feels great to step off the "gotta have the newest products" treadmill.

Madockawando, Enjoy all those goodies; let us know when they arrive and how you run them. Nothing big in 2023 for me. I will live vicariously by hearing about other members purchases and runs. (After the last trip to the repair guy, when I also bought a barrel loader accessory, my wife reminded me that I should now run the trains.) Alfred

HI Dave, Yes I saw that from TW $750 is hefty for a ES44, but they are doing a RK scale switcher in 2 army schemes for $369 they do look nice. Dave F

Hi all This year will be the year of the Big Boy for me. I’ve been looking for one for the last 2-3 years without success. The special run for Mr Muffins has grabbed my attention. It will require some layout re-engineering for me but I’m looking forward to it. Isn’t that what the hobby is about? Don’t really have room for it but at it’s worse it would look great in a display case. I know I’ve put the bulls eye on my back, but I’m looking forward to its arrival. Such an awesome engineering machine. PJ

Short answer from me is NO. There's nothing new on offer from Lionel or anybody else that interests me - particularly Lionel with their ongoing QC issues. I have repair/maintenance projects backed up already.

"Big Ticket" is pretty broad and nondescript, but I did have my eye on the Golden Gate Depot 1938 Santa Fe Super Chief Passenger set, but that is just a bit too out of my comfort zone. I do have the Dreyfus Set (Engine and cars) on my "almost pretty sure l will buy list", just have not ordered it yet.
To address the question, I have not really done much purchasing over the last 5 or 6 years since I just did not find anything interesting or in my specific area of interest. but the Dreyfus has always been on my list since the Lionel Dreyfus from 2002 or so.

Not for engines, but with the expansion in our home of a new layout, accumulate the new buildings and they can add up quickly (9).

No big ticket items for me this year or any year. I don't think toy trains are worth the current prices however I will enjoy seeing videos and pictures of the big ticket items youz guys buy.

I ordered the new Big Boy. I couldn't resist, the Big Boy is always one I wanted to have. It will be my first brand new and biggest engine. Now for the wait.
