The question is: will there be any major players among the manufacturers or train dealers there?

Unless Lionel can come to an agreement I don't think they will be there. As far as major dealers go it seems the top ones have been getting older and don't want to attend. Dealers like Nicholas Smith, Charlie Ro and many others. Who knows but I will be there for the 74th straight time. No matter who is there I will have a great time. Although this will be my first time using a scooter so be aware I may run you over (just kidding) So go and enjoy yourself, you will be amazed how many trains are there, everything from prewar, postwar, mpc, modern, std gauge, and many others.

I don't care if the major dealers are there or not. I am a prewar & postwar collector 1917 to 1969. There are 5 buildings of pre & postwar 1900 to 1969 trains.

I plan on going. Probably just one day though.

I sold off my Postwar and now focus on O scale 3 rail for my locomotives and rolling stock. York is almost 7 hours drive from me and now that the major O gauge manufacturers and big dealers have abandoned York it doesn’t make sense for me to go anymore.

I’ll be making my flight, hotel and car rental reservations shortly. Probably from Tuesday before the Meet until Sunday or Monday after the Meet.
This will be a special trip visiting with our daughter this time. She is having a baby boy in May, our ninth grandchild.

So what if 3 or 4 of the so called BIG dealers are not there. Their is still plenty of new modern trains there. I have been going to York now 46 years, and have missed 5 meets. That's 86 times. I still drive it, 520 miles each way and I am 92 years old. I still enjoy it just as much as I did the first meet 46 years ago.

I am still on the fence. I may go to just see some of the people from OGF Forum.

Brian, Great news about the grandson. Now you know who to pass the trains on to. Our daughter-in-law is expecting in June; we'll know next week if it's a boy - hope so - I need to have someone else to help me play with the trains. In any case, my 18-month old granddaughter motioned she wanted to go to the attic to see the trains - that was great - I'll have her operating them in a few years. Alfred

I'm within an hours drive of York. None the less, I have never been there. It would be good to go, even if I don't have $ to spend. I would like to handle some of the new stuff - you know, I have no familiarity with any of the equipment made since 1965. If I am really fortunate, I'd like another post war steamer and a Lionel 2321 Lackawanna FM. Alfred

No matter what dealers are attending, there is still a lot to see and buy at York. There is no doubt that the demographics of those that buy the model trains will have an effect but the York faithful will be there. The cost of new trains, and traveling there has doubled in the past few years.....hotels, food, gasoline even refreshments. Considering today's inflationary spiral can it be the same?

When I made my first trip to York in 1976 we stayed at the York Valley Inn in East York. We paid $35.00 a night. Now we pay $135.00 a night at the Wyndham Garden Inn which is still a bargain.
