David, Where do you live? I live about 30 miles west of Philadelphia. I go to York and Allentown twice ea. Every year. No need to go to Amherst. Dave

I have not been to a show in many years. It would be fun to go to a show, not to buy, but to handle (literally) the new equipment, since I am not familiar with all but post war equipment. Alfred

I have been to the big E show several times over the past 25 years. It's a 3+ hour trip each way. I have found it not worth going any more if you are an O gauge prewar/postwar collector. Their is not that much O Gauge trains there.

Eddie, I agree that it the amount of O-Gauge he reduced, but there is still plenty for my liking. I have never been to York so I can’t really compare.
We had fun. On the way home now. I picked up some buildings for the new downtown extension. I’ll share some photos later.

I went Saturday. Even though I had knee braces on, my back gave out. I walked three miles per my fit bit. Just looked a lot but did not buy. Have stuff on order and probably order the MTH Army switcher from Trainworld.
Saw many of my club members and other enthusiats that I have met over the years. Saw Andy Edleman at the Atlas Booth, Rich Foster at MTH, forgot who I talked with at Lionel. It was packed and the parking lots were filled. Many large module layouts of all scales. Still a great show to go to.

Eddie, I agree that it the amount of O-Gauge he reduced, but there is still plenty for my liking. I have never been to York so I can’t really compare. We had fun. On the way home now. I picked up some buildings for the new downtown extension. I’ll share some photos later. I've never been to this show. But from folks who attend this show regularly, I gather it's more of a "model railroading" show with a sprinkling of O-Gauge trains. Certainly gives attendees a chance to see where O-Gauge / O-Scale sits in the big scheme of model railroading in general. On the plus side, there are lots of techniques in the hobby that cross scale boundaries -- especially regarding layout construction, track planning and scenery construction. But on the downside, there are other shows like York and Allentown ATMA, where attendees get a much bigger bang for their buck in terms of O-Gauge selection.
Several years ago, I attended the World's Greatest Hobby on Tour train show when it came to Oaks PA (outside Philadelphia). Show was PACKED with families and young kids. And vendors ran the gamut from Z-scale to G-scale. A bit of O-Gauge, but nothing like we'd see at York or Allentown ATMA. So I guess the Big E sounds more like the WGHOT style of shows... even bigger.
If Scenic Express attended the Big E show... that says something, because I don't think they attend York anymore since the company relocated to Colorado. That's a pretty big commitment to haul out lots of product across the miles. But then again, scenery construction crosses the entire spectrum of model railroading scales. So I can see why they would prefer the Big E show over York nowadays. It's all business.

I’m sorry to hear this, Don. The current strain of the China virus isn’t nearly as deadly as the original but it’s still not good. I hope you feel better very soon.

So this beleif that the Amherst show doesn't have much in the way of O-Gauge I don't think is true.
You can find the exhibitors list below. MTH and Lionel were there (dont think Lionel was at York) and many of the well known O-Gauge hobby shops (Trainworlds, Grzyboski, Trainz.com for starters) where there. Again, I have never been to York but I didn't have any trouble finding O-Gauge in any of the Amherst show buildings. The gauge is well represented from my perspective.
