I’m going to pick up a universal remote for my Lionel trains because I have several Bluetooth engines and I have a tendency of misplacing the remotes……. Does the universal remote control all Lionel Bluetooth engines? And is there anything I might need to know about the remote itself? Thank you

You can control up to 3 engines at one time. You get some of the announcements of the engine, horn/whistle, fwd, reverse, uncoupling. You can also get the Lionchief app (free) on your phone. Both the universal remote and the app are great ways to run any legacy engine. (Bluetooth only)
Btw Joe, the Universal remote should be around $55.00 new. But some places have been increasing the prices. Be careful who you buy from.

You may need to update the software on the remote. That will ensure it works with all of the Bluetooth trains.
I like mine but sometimes I also just use the LionChief app.

Hi I use the remote all the time. It is very convenient because you can run three trains at a time. The app is nice also but then you are restricted to one train at a time.

I have the Universal Remote and I like it. I think there are 1 or 2 very early LionChief engines that will not work with the Universal Remote. I like it better than having a remote for each engine. As Adam said, you may need to update the software but it's fairly easy to do.

Wow, I didn't know you could do that. We have a universal remote at the club. I'll have to do it when no one is around.

Thank you Many people have complained about the range of the remote. If you have a large layout it’s something to consider. You don’t want a pricey Lionel locomotive launching itself off your layout! It’s just one of the reasons I really dislike the Bluetooth control.

Long story short.......I went on vacation to North Carolina and visited Nicks Trains in Raleigh. I was sort of excited that I forgot to buy the universal remote control

The Universal Remote is an excellent device. It’s easy to use and the range is adequate for all layouts except the unusually large.

I have 2 universal remotes to control my Legacy engines. Its a cheaper alternative to the Legacy control system. You don't get all of the Legacy features but its good enough for me.Never had a problem with them!
