I have 5, love watching trains disappear and reappear and they are a great way to add some real estate to your layout.

Because my layout is small, my tunnel has a motel on top.

Tunnel length is an excellent question. My longest is 26 ft., but I can get to every inch of it.

No, I don’t have tunnels. BUT!, I now have a covered bridge. My son and daughter-in-law gave me a present of a Lionel Covered Bridge (lighted and weathered). It was in a post a few days ago that I mentioned considering a bridge to span the cut-out in the middle of the layout – something that I had not mentioned to anyone in the family at any time. It is going to be part of the independent loop in the center of the layout. I may use a section of existing track to make the span, or install two switches for a new track section. Alfred

What a great gift Alfred. That should be a wonderful addition to your layout.

For two reasons, I am re-opening this thread – because I was reminded of tunnels by Keith’s recent posts, and the tunnel I was at yesterday. Our daughter took us to the rail trail that begins near the Columbia, PA Visitor’s Center. The trail parallels the Susquehanna River and the Norfolk Southern tracks. We went through what is now a pedestrian tunnel that might have had tracks through it at one time. My wife said that the rock face might make a good photo. It is attached. Alfred
