Welcome to a brand-new weekly thread that will make your Monday’s more interesting.
Vehicles have been an important part of our layouts. Street scenes would not be complete without them, not to mention parking lots or driveways. This thread celebrates all of our model vehicles.
We are so fortunate that we in our O-Gauge hobby are treated to a wide variety of vehicles that are currently available in the marketplace. The options are endless in a variety of styles and price ranges.
Each week, you will be asked to pick a model on your layout and tell us why you purchased it. Was it price, style, or reminiscent of cars you have owned. The more posts, the merrier.
This should be a lot of fun.

I will start with the first post. I chose for this week a WMCE model made exclusively for Route 66 Models. There were only 10 produced. It is a 1957 De Soto Fireflite hardtop. To say that this model is gorgeous would be a severe understatement. It is just stunning and emulates the wonderful style of the 50’s. When I stumbled on it on Forum 1:43, it was a must have. In a blink of the eye, it was sold out, so I feel fortunate I grabbed it just in time. What makes it more special to me is I was going to recommend this model as the NABCC 2023 Car of the Year after I found a photo of the 1 to 1 over a year ago. Buz from Route 66 beat me to it (all good) as there are many other beautiful models to consider for 2023.
I hope my story gives you some ideas of what to tell us about your model of the week.

For our inaugural thread on this topic I have a Brooklin Model of a 1970s Mustang Fastback GT500. It’s not as detailed or fancy as many of the other Brooklins I have or I see people post on our forum, but it has special meaning to me.
My dad had a similar car (not the high end GT500 but same body style) when I was a little boy. He loved that car. He would take me on rides and let me sit in the front, pre-seatbelt laws. I always insisted on sitting in the front.
One rainy day he had to take a short ride to the store for something and asked if I wanted to join him. While it was a short ride it included a ride over a short bridge. As he recounts the story, that day, for some reason, I wanted to sit in the back seat, probably to have more room to play with the toy car I had recently gotten.
Well, the bridge was slippery, dad got cut off by another driver, spun around, hit the other side of the bridge on the front passenger-side corner and totaled his beloved Mustang. The front passenger seat was obliterated. I would not be here today if I had sat there.

I have a relative who had and probably still has (been a while since I've seen them) a 72 Buick Skylark Orange convertible. I always loved that car and was taken for rides in it. I've always been a Buick fan, my parents had Buicks also. I'm generally a mid to late 60s and seventies car fan, especially GM products ( I do like T Birds and Mustangs any year). I also like any year/make trucks- tractors or pickups , 1980 or before. After the first NABCC club car this was a have to have Brooklin,

That is a stunning model, Joe. One of the best of the 60's.

So, for the 1st week, if I understand, it can be any 1:43 scale model? White Metal, resin or diecast, yes? 1:43 scale model collecting is fairly new for me as I started in late 2012. I was thrilled with the models available, so many brands, marques and body styles, Oh Boy! Where does a collector start? I have always been fascinated with the style of the '34 LaSalle, now the '34 Cadillac is nice, but the LaSalle took the style to a whole new level. It's smaller size just pulls it off much better, more graceful with more class. I had already added a couple from Brooklin when I came across this beautiful convertible by Durham. It was in my favorite medium, white metal. A fantastic color of Sheridan Blue and a closed version besides, heaven. It even came to me at a fabulous price. So, all things considered and with several more added since, this is my absolute favorite 1934 LaSalle.
