Making good progress. Here is what 3 trains running on a 4x8 layout looks like. The upper loop is still a bit rough, but running nicely. arypinski.smugmug.com/Choochoo/i-R3Bx3sh/ALike I said, running trans is my favorite part of the hobby and three trains is three times the fun! I always liked the 4-4-0. Thats a fun video to watch. That old 4-4-0 running on the upper loop happens to be the very first train I ever got. I still remember opening it on Christmas morning. I was 9 and I asked Santa for an electric train for maybe 3 years and finally got it. It’s nothing special as far as trains go (no light, DC only, though I did add a rectifier, no sound, very basic), but it’s very special to me.

I also have my first set that I got for Christmas in the early 70s. The Cannon Ball Express....... Today she still works but is in a well deserved retirement.

Thanks Adam. Got it done.
Worked on installing an AIU on the layout yesterday. Unfortunately there is a bug somewhere. Have a replacement on order.
My son in law is installing pavers between the house and train room. With winter lurking somewhere down the road we want a better walkway than we have had.
While awaiting a replacement AIU, we are working to complete one of Harry Heike’s kits. Pictures will follow in a day or so.
What else have our members done recently?
Joe can you imagine today’s trains lasting the way our 50+ year old ones have. It is amazing.

Adam, I like your 4x8 layout. You are off to a good start. A small layout can be a lot of fun. I agree, a 4X8, or the 5X10 layouts impress me a lot. What one can accomplish with trackage and scenery is amazing. I've seen pics of small layout of areas, not realizing these pics came from small layouts.

I definitive feel as though my current track plan packs in a lot of fun in a small package. I hope to make some progress on the scenery over the next few months and won't rush it. I am planning a village, a forested area (may attempt a pond) and a train station area. But when I say plan, I use that term very loosely. For me the train room is my Zen and I just go there to mess around and do whatever comes to mind. I do way too much planning at work already.

I use a plan the same way. It's a guide to get me started but I wander away from it as I make progress. Other than that my layout is still an E shape it looks nothing like my original plan.

Last night my daughter suggested that the layout needs an Area 51 and I think she may be right! So this is how I my planning goes!!

Received this sign today from Vicki, the long awaited Logan’s Ice Cream shop sign that goes with Harry Hieke’s ice cream shop. At Nags Head, NC, the real Logan’s Ice Cream was a place that we often visited with our grandchildren... one of whom is named Logan. We plan to have a billboard down the street from the ice cream emporium featuring the grandchildren. Likely will put a couple of interior pictures inside the building. Pictures from 2012 - 14 will be fun for them to see. In case any of you have an ice cream shop in need of a new name, I expect that PTC can negotiate a volume discount.

That is really cool, Bill. Personalizing scenes on your layout makes it very special.

Good reminder Bill, I need a new sign for our Harry Hieke Ice Cream Shop as well. If you know what I mean, the one on there now has to go. Mine will say OGF Ice Cream Shop.
