Brooklin Model collectors are something very special. I have belonged to many clubs over the years, but I have never come across a group so friendly, so knowledgeable about their hobby, and so eager to share the joy of Brooklin Model collecting.
For me, Brooklin Model collecting stated back in 1996 while I was attending a model train show. At one of the tables, a vendor was selling 1:43 scale model cars. I saw one the stood out among all the others. I picked it up and boy, it was so much heavier than any of the other models for sale. It went home with me for $ 10.00. I have attended many other train shows since then and frequently purchased for great prices these wonderful heavy 1:43 scale models.
When my wife and I started to build a new train layout in 2018, we incorporated many new roads and had a need to add several new vehicles to fill them. It was then when I paid attention to just what these beautiful heavy models were (I had accumulated about 26 of them at the time) and upon more careful examination, I found that most of them were by Brooklin Models.
This recognition was the launch pad for me. I was then on the hunt for many more. It opened whole new world of collecting in addition to model trains. Many Brooklin Model collectors are unaware that model train layouts make the perfect diorama. What better way to display Brooklin Models than in a realistic street scene. My collection has rapidly grown since and it has been a pure joy in the hunt. And the best part, the hunt continues.
At the beginning of this year, I saw the need for a club to serve the North American Brooklin Model community. Thanks to Brooklin Models, they partnered me up with John Kuvakas and together we worked closely to create the initiative that is the NABCC. You might say that this Initiative created much more than a club. It brought together some of the nicest people I have ever come across. They are not just from North America, they are from all over the world. The common thread, Brooklin Models. In my position with the NABCC, I have a lot of contact with our members. Not a day goes by that I don’t have at least one friendly contact with a NABCC member. Today, there were several contacts. Al from Massachusetts called me and we had a wonderful chat about Brooklin Models and Buicks in particular. I exchanged e-mails with Charlie Barnett from the UK, one of the nicest gentlemen I have ever met.
Most of you already know what I am saying. We have something special that few clubs ever achieve. Respect, knowledge, friendship, sharing, and so much more. So, to all my important new friends, a very Merry Christmas to you all.
