Here is a photo of the yard I work in, at Port Morris, NJ. The pic was taken by fellow Engineer Ben Armand. I have just spotted the 4204 on the far right and we are in the process of shutting it down for the night. It is 11:45 pm on this Spring night in NJ. The 4101, the nearest engine to the photographer, is an original Central Railroad of New Jersey GP40 built in 1962 as a GP40P. It originally had a steam heat generator when delivered. After numerous rebuild programs, the engine is now equipped with a 6 cylinder diesel pony engine, which creates power for heating and lights. The locomotive electrical system has also been updated making the engine a “dash 2” unit. Now classed as a GP40PH-2. The other engines are Conrail rebuilt units, most based on original NYC and Penn Central GP40 frames, converted to GP40PH-2s. All these units are slated for retirement as the new Bombardier ALP-45s arrive from Germany... Tom Attachments:
