Just got back from Key West. Took the Northeast Regional from Boston to NY, and then the Silver Meteor (2 roomettes) to South Florida. Returned on the Meteor to NY, and then took the Acela back to Boston. For the first time in in years all the trains were on time. The food on the Meteor was horrible. They need to get the diner back. The new Moynihan station in NY is beautiful. That is some nice moving mural in the station. There were more police in the station than travelers.

My wife and I both thought the beef dinner on the Meteor was good, and wished we had ordered it for dinner AND lunch. I think the Acela is not worth the price.

Eddie, I found it saved no more than one hour from NYC to Boston. We do the Philadelphia to Boston run twice a year.

Joe, We got in to Moynihan station at 11:30am on the Meteor right on time. we had tickets for the northeast regional that left at 2:15pm. The Acela left at 12:03 so we changed our tickets to the Acela and got to Boston at 3:45pm instead of 6:30 pm. Also the Acela is much cleaner, & the seats are further apart & more comfortable.. Gary, We had the new car on our train. I checked it out. Only difference is, they took away the toilet, and the sink is nicer. The basin is white porcelain. It has forcets now instead of those things that squirt the water all over everything.

The issue with food pretty much lands with the Onboard Service Manager. Long distance trains with food service pretty much get the same supplies. It is up to the cooks and mangers as to how they serve it.
I have the best food on the Capitol Limited. The worst was the Silver Meteor. The Lakeshore Limited was so-so. All in the old style dining cars.
There seems to be wide variations in the quality of the food prep. It is a problem that has plagued Amtrak for decades.
I hope other aspects of the trip were fine...

The issue with food pretty much lands with the Onboard Service Manager. Long distance trains with food service pretty much get the same supplies. It is up to the cooks and mangers as to how they serve it. Starting in October 2019, Amtrak started converting ALL overnight trains to "airline" style microwaved meals in the dining cars. These are now pre-paid, and for sleeping car patrons only. Prior to that, coach passengers could pay to eat in the dining car. Amtrak is now trying to give the impression that this is due to Covid, but they started this 3 months before that.
