On 22 April 1945, the USAAF Exploitation Division commenced Operation LUSTY (
Luftwaffe
Secret
Technolog
y) with the aim of exploiting captured German aeronautical documents and aircraft. Team One was tasked with collecting aircraft and weapons for study in the US, while Team Two concentrated on collecting documents and recruiting scientists.
By mid 1946, LUSTY operatives had collected approximately 16,000 items representing 6,200 tons of freight. Ultimately, technical analysis was carried out on roughly 2,400 items.
Operation LUSTY items were deposited at Wright Field, Freeman Field (Indiana), Davis-Monthan Field (Arizona), and the Special Depot in Park Ridge, Illinois (later to become O'Hare International).
These crates represent what items retrieved from Germany under Operation LUSTY might look like. The crates are wooden and covered on five sides. Each crate is unique in size, staining, and weathering. The stampings are on all five of the faces. The manufacturers' marks include Focke-Wulfe Werk Bremen, Messerschmitt Werk Regensburg, and Heinkel Werk Oranienburg.
Please see the pictures below (the O scale conductor is for size reference only):
The crates can be placed on flat cars, in gondolas or boxcars (with open doors), on station platforms, or in truck beds (think deuce and a half...)
I'm selling as sets of 6 boxes (two of each manufacturers' marks) for $20. Nowhere else will you ever see anything like these again!
